The addresses of the Province of Turin

The Province of Turin was abolished in 2015 by the Delrio reform, which transferred its functions to the Metropolitan City of Turin.

The domain provincia.torino.it, registered on 29 January 1996, is paid up until 29 January 2027 and is still registered to the «Provincia di Torino».1

The domain of the Metropolitan City, cittametropolitana.torino.it, created on 6 November 2012, is also registered in the name of the now-abolished entity.2

The name provincia.to.it, on the other hand, has RESERVED status: it is reserved by the registry and is not for sale.3

From provincia.torino.it to cittametropolitana.torino.it: the 2015 transition

The first page of provincia.torino.it, online since December 1996, counted visits from 24 January 1996 and gave its address as via Maria Vittoria 12 in Turin.1

In July 2006 the portal devoted a section to the ongoing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, «Torino 2006: Olympic Diary», alongside the usual institutional channels.2

The domain provincia.torino.it remained active, with governing bodies, services and news, at least until January 2012.3

On 29 November 2014 the address cittametropolitana.torino.it announced the creation of the Metropolitan City of Turin, established by the Delrio law (no. 56 of 2014) to replace the Province starting on 1 January 2015.4
