Bricherasio

Bricherasio is a comune in the province of Turin, situated in the Pinerolese area. It is connected to the neighbouring comune of Bibiana by a bridge over the Pellice stream, crossed by Provincial Road 157, an infrastructure managed by the metropolitan city of Turin.

The bridge over the Pellice and the 2026 works

In autumn 2026 the bridge over the Pellice stream on SP 157, which connects Bricherasio and Bibiana, underwent extraordinary maintenance work commissioned by the Road Directorate 2 of the metropolitan city of Turin. The metropolitan city stated that the works would last about 90 days in total, including work already carried out since mid-September.[1]

The work involved repairing deteriorated surfaces on the bridge's abutments, beams and crossbeams, waterproofing the joints at the abutments, replacing the joints at the piers, and improving water drainage from the deck by replacing and extending the downpipes.[1] A first phase, which began on 17 September 2026, took place without affecting traffic and involved the bridge's two abutments. In the second phase the works affected the underside of the beams, accessed via a by-bridge platform from the SP 157 carriageway; the third phase instead affected the bridge's road surface, with the replacement and waterproofing of the joints at the piers and abutments.[1]

Traffic and alternating one-way flow

During the second and third phases of the works, lasting about two months in total, the presence of vehicles and workers required narrowing the carriageway on the bridge. On weekdays, from 8am to 5pm, alternating one-way traffic regulated by traffic lights was introduced, also extended to Provincial Road 161 to manage traffic flows at the roundabout at the entrance to the SP 157 bridge.[1]

In the first two days after the alternating one-way system was activated, queues formed on SP 161 towards Luserna San Giovanni. For this reason, from 7 October 2026 the metropolitan city of Turin adjusted the timing of the traffic lights and announced improved advance signage on the approach to the worksite.[1]

Drivers coming from Turin and Pinerolo were advised that, on leaving Pinerolo, they could take State Road 589 of the Lakes via Avigliana towards Osasco and Cavour to reach Bibiana. Those coming from Torre Pellice instead find, in the built-up area of Luserna San Giovanni, a sign for the detour along Provincial Road 162 towards Lusernetta.[1]
