Bibiana

Bibiana is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Turin, located in the Pinerolese area. The municipal territory is linked to that of Bricherasio by a bridge over the Pellice river, along Provincial Road SP157, an infrastructure that ensures the connection between the two municipalities^[1].

Works on the Pellice bridge (2026)

Bibiana can be reached via the network of provincial roads managed by the Metropolitan City of Turin: from Bricherasio it is accessed via the SP157, which crosses the bridge over the Pellice, while Provincial Road SP161 passes nearby, with a roundabout at the entrance to the bridge^[1]. In autumn 2026 the bridge underwent extraordinary maintenance work commissioned by the Metropolitan City of Turin's Roads Department 2 (Direzione Viabilità 2), with an overall expected duration of around 90 days^[1]. The work was carried out in three phases: the first, started on 17 September 2026 without affecting traffic, concerned the two abutments of the bridge; the second, begun in the first week of October, concerned the underside of the beams, accessed via a by-bridge platform; the third phase involved work on the road surface, with the replacement and waterproofing of the joints at the piers and abutments^[1].

During the second and third phases, because of the narrowing of the carriageway, on weekdays from 8am to 5pm an alternating one-way system regulated by traffic lights was put in place, also extended to the SP161 to manage traffic at the roundabout at the bridge entrance^[1]. Following queues that formed in the first days of the roadworks in the direction of Luserna San Giovanni, from 7 October 2026 the Metropolitan City of Turin changed the timing of the traffic lights and planned to improve advance warning signage in the stretch approaching the roadworks^[1]. To reach Bibiana during the works, road users coming from Turin and Pinerolo were advised they could take a detour via State Road SS589 of the Lakes from Avigliana towards Osasco and Cavour, while those coming from Torre Pellice were directed, in the built-up area of Luserna San Giovanni, to take the detour along the SP162 towards Lusernetta^[1].

• 6 October 2026 — The Metropolitan City of Turin announces that the extraordinary maintenance work on the bridge over the Pellice river on the SP157 between Bricherasio and Bibiana will last around 90 days overall, and from 7 October changes the timing of the alternating one-way traffic lights to reduce queues on the SP161. → Eco del Chisone
