Mappano is a municipality (comune) of the Metropolitan City of Turin, located in the area north of the regional capital, bordering Borgaro Torinese and Settimo Torinese. The municipal area is crossed by residential streets including via Leonardo da Vinci, via Montessori, via Rita Levi Montalcini, via Cottolengo, via Argentera and via Meucci, which open onto piazza Cesare Pavese, identified as one of the town's central points [1].

Shared mobility

Since 26 October 2026, a shared-mobility service run by the company Dott has been active in Mappano, part of a project coordinated by the Metropolitan City of Turin with an expected duration of 36 months. The initial fleet comprises 50 vehicles: 20 electric scooters, 15 pedal-assist bicycles and 15 traditional bicycles [1]. Pick-up and drop-off points for the vehicles are spread across different areas of the municipality, including some outlying areas, with stops also planned near GTT public-transport stops [1].

The service allows users to travel beyond the municipal boundary, reaching Borgaro Torinese, Settimo Torinese and the Torino Stura railway station, an access point to the metropolitan railway network (Sistema Ferroviario Metropolitano) [1]. The scooters have a number plate and a phone holder with built-in charging; the electric bicycles have an upgraded battery and a phone-charging system, while the traditional bicycles have a three-speed gear and a basket. All vehicles have satellite positioning, with a maximum speed of 20 km/h for scooters and 25 km/h for electric bicycles [1]. Using the service requires downloading the Dott app and creating a personal profile; rental is reserved for adults [1].

Metropolitan network

Besides Mappano, the shared-mobility project involves the municipalities of Turin, Alpignano, Beinasco, Borgaro Torinese, Collegno, Grugliasco, Moncalieri, Nichelino, Orbassano, Pianezza, Rivalta di Torino, Rivoli, San Mauro Torinese, Trofarello, Venaria Reale and Settimo Torinese [2]. The project's stated goal is to integrate micromobility with public and rail transport, turning the service from an offer tied to a single urban centre into a network able to connect different municipalities in the area [2].
