The addresses of the Provincia di Torino

The Provincia di Torino was abolished in 2015 by the Delrio reform, which transferred its functions to the Città metropolitana di Torino.

The domain provincia.torino.it, registered on 29 January 1996, appears paid up until 29 January 2027 and is still registered to the «Provincia di Torino».1

The Città metropolitana's domain too, cittametropolitana.torino.it, created on 6 November 2012, is registered in the name of the now-abolished body.2

The name provincia.to.it instead has RESERVED status: it is reserved by the registry and is not for sale.3

From provincia.torino.it to cittametropolitana.torino.it: the 2015 transition

The first page of provincia.torino.it, online since December 1996, counted visits from 24 January 1996 and gave its address as via Maria Vittoria 12 in Turin.1

In July 2006 the portal devoted a section to the ongoing winter Olympics and Paralympics, «Torino 2006: Diario Olimpico» (Olympic Diary), alongside the usual institutional channels.2

The domain provincia.torino.it remained active, with bodies, services and news, at least until January 2012.3

On 29 November 2014 the address cittametropolitana.torino.it announced the birth of the Città Metropolitana di Torino, established by the Delrio law (no. 56 of 2014) to replace the Provincia from 1 January 2015.4

From the 1996 site to the Città Metropolitana

The site provincia.torino.it, recorded by the web archive on 19 December 1996, declared in its own counter visits «starting from 24/01/1996» and gave its address as via Maria Vittoria 12, in Turin.1

On 1 July 2006 the redesigned site included a section devoted to the Olympics, «Torino 2006: Diario Olimpico».2

From 1 January 2015 the Provincia di Torino was replaced by the Città Metropolitana di Torino, established by law no. 56 of 2014 (the so-called «Delrio law») as a second-tier wide-area territorial body: the new site cittametropolitana.torino.it, recorded by the web archive as early as 29 November 2014, presented itself as heir to the structure, experience and technical expertise of the Provincia.3

From the 1996 site to the Città metropolitana

The site provincia.torino.it, recorded by the web archive as early as 19 December 1996, listed among its sections the body's organs (presidency, executive, council), territorial planning, districts, electoral colleges, mountain communities and parks.1 In November 2014 the archive recorded a new site, cittametropolitana.torino.it, whose page explained that the Città Metropolitana di Torino, a wide-area territorial body established by the Delrio law (no. 56 of 2014), was replacing the Provincia from 1 January 2015, inheriting its structure, experience and technical expertise.2

In the snapshot of 1 July 2006 the site devoted an «Olympic Section» — «Torino 2006: Diario Olimpico» — to the winter Olympic and Paralympic Games; in 2012 the body's Contracts Service was based at via Maria Vittoria 12 in Turin. From 1 January 2015, under the Delrio law (no. 56 of 2014), the Provincia was replaced by the Città Metropolitana di Torino, whose site cittametropolitana.torino.it was already online in November 2014.
