Telt (Tunnel Euralpin Lyon Turin) is the Italian-French company building the international section of the Turin-Lyon high-speed railway. Its remit includes the international station at Susa, in Valle di Susa, the Italian end of the Mont Cenis base tunnel, a 57-kilometre mega-tunnel that will link the line with France [1][2].

The tender for the Susa station

On 13 October 2026 Telt published a tender notice in the Official Journal of the European Union for the detailed design, construction and maintenance of the Susa station and its associated tracks. The contract, worth 155 million euros, falls under the CO2 "Opere all'aperto Italia" ("outdoor works Italy") worksite and is structured as a "Marché global de performance" under the French public procurement code, which Telt's tenders follow; the works and services will be carried out under the Italian regulatory framework [1][2].

The tender has a first phase with a deadline of 15 December 2026, by which interested companies can submit documentation showing their technical, professional and financial capacity. Candidates found suitable will then receive the specifications on which to base their bids. The contract comprises a base tranche, covering detailed design, site supervision, construction of the building, its ancillary facilities and the track platform, plus five years of maintenance from entry into service, and an optional tranche for a further three years of maintenance. Completion of the works is due by 31 December 2033, the date the schedule also sets for the commercial entry into service of the whole line [1][2].

The design and the debate over its location

The Susa station was designed by the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma back in 2012 [1][2]. Its location has repeatedly been called into question in favour of an alternative site at Bussoleno, where an old freight yard already exists and could be reused — a solution put forward by Bussoleno's mayor Antonella Zoggia as able to save around 100 million euros. This position was also backed by the Metropolitan City of Turin, through deputy mayor Jacopo Suppo, and by the Democratic Party, which in the Regional Council called for the project to be rethought so the funds could be used to complete the Turin metro line towards Rivoli, currently stalled. The proposal to move the station to Bussoleno was rejected by the Piedmont Region and by the Municipality of Susa [1].
