Istituzioni vive, indirizzi morti

Some institutions in Turin that are still active have left their old web addresses free, one of which still keeps receiving links.

Turin has no shortage of institutions still active today whose old web addresses under the .torino.it domain have been abandoned and are now free.

The Castello di Rivoli, a contemporary art museum, let the domain castellodirivoli.torino.it go free after moving to castellodirivoli.org.1 The Teatro Stabile di Torino likewise freed up teatrostabile.torino.it, moving to teatrostabiletorino.it.1 The domains of other organizations are also free, including the Federazione autonoma bancari italiani (fabi.torino.it) and the Ipasvi nursing association (ipasvi.torino.it), as well as apice.torino.it and oct.torino.it.1

The Castello di Rivoli’s old address, though free, still occupies position 12,539,131 in Common Crawl’s host graph — a sign that links dating from the period when it was in use still point to that domain.2

The address teatrostabile.torino.it hosted, in December 1998, the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season and an automated voice information number for performances.1

On the same domain, between 2006 and 2011, no trace of the theatre remained: the page had become an advertising directory with links to unrelated categories — hotels, dating, mobile phones, fashion — with results stated as «provided by Yahoo! Search Marketing».23

The same fate befell ipasvi.torino.it, the official site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino with professional news still in July 2016: by January 2022 the address showed only the default page of a Parallels hosting panel.45

The Teatro Stabile and the Collegio IPASVI

The site teatrostabile.torino.it, recorded by the web archive on 5 December 1998, was at that time the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season and an automated telephone information service; by January 2008, and still in March 2011, the same address instead hosted a page of paid links («Search on teatrostabile.torino.it!») with categories unrelated to theatre, such as hotels, classified ads and dating, electronics and finance.12

The site ipasvi.torino.it, recorded from 16 November 2001, was the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino (the professional register of nurses), with its office at via Stellone 5 and professional news updated at least until 2016; by January 2022 the same address showed a generic default page from the Parallels hosting panel, with no content relating to the Collegio.34

The Castello di Rivoli site in 1999-2000

The site castellodirivoli.torino.it was, according to the archive’s snapshot from 29 April 1999, the official site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, with sections on its activities, the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions and visitor information; among the bodies listed as supporters were Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, Fiat, Camera di Commercio di Torino, Telecom Italia and Città di Torino.1

A page from January 2000 gave the museum’s address as piazza Mafalda di Savoia in Rivoli, its opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday, and discounted tickets for children, pensioners, teachers and students; another page, from November 1999, described the permanent collection as having been assembled starting in 1984, the year the museum opened.23

The IPASVI portal in 2016, before the generic page of 2022

In July 2016 the address ipasvi.torino.it still hosted the portal of the Collegio provinciale IPASVI di Torino, with a restricted area for members to log in with a username and password, as well as sections on the Collegio’s activities and on transparent administration.1

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: three decommissioned .torino.it addresses

The site castellodirivoli.torino.it, in a 1999 snapshot, was the official site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, supported by Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, FIAT, Camera di Commercio di Torino, Telecom Italia and Città di Torino, with a permanent collection assembled starting in 1984, the year the museum opened.1 The site teatrostabile.torino.it, which in December 1998 presented the Teatro Stabile di Torino’s drama season, had by 2008 turned into a page of advertising links with no theatre content at all.2 The site ipasvi.torino.it, the online home of the Collegio IPASVI (nurses) di Torino since 2001 and still active in July 2016, appeared in January 2022 as the default page of a hosting service, a sign of its abandonment.3

Three defunct addresses: Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI

The site castellodirivoli.torino.it was, at least from 1999, the official page of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea del Castello di Rivoli, located at piazza Mafalda di Savoia in Rivoli; the permanent collection, according to the site, had been assembled starting in 1984, the year the museum opened.

The site teatrostabile.torino.it was, in the December 1998 snapshot, the official page of the Teatro Stabile di Torino with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season; in the 2006 and 2011 snapshots, however, the same address hosted an advertising directory of sponsored links on topics such as fashion, travel and dating, with no further reference to the theatre.

The site ipasvi.torino.it, home of the Collegio provinciale IPASVI (nurses) di Torino at via Stellone 5, was active with news and services for members between 2001 and 2016; in the January 2022 snapshot the address instead showed only a default page from the Parallels hosting provider.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile di Torino and Collegio IPASVI

The site of the Castello di Rivoli - Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, castellodirivoli.torino.it, has been active at least since 29 April 1999, as shown by the Web Archive’s first copy, with sections on the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions and practical information.1 The site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, teatrostabile.torino.it, online at least since 5 December 1998 with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season, was later decommissioned: the 2008 copy shows it turned into a page of advertising links («Fashion», «Love», «Financing») unrelated to the theatre.23 The site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, ipasvi.torino.it, active at least since 16 November 2001 with category news and services for members, appears in January 2022 to have been replaced by a default page from the Parallels hosting provider.45

The old address of the Teatro Stabile and that of the Collegio IPASVI

The old address of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, teatrostabile.torino.it, in the Web Archive’s first snapshot from 5 December 1998 published the programme for the 1998-99 drama season; in the snapshots from 8 January 2008 and 8 March 2011 the domain instead appears to have been taken over by third parties and turned into a generic portal of advertising links, with no connection to the theatre.123

The old address of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, ipasvi.torino.it, is still online as the body’s site in the snapshot from 30 November 2016; in the last live snapshot found, from 21 January 2022, the domain instead shows a default page from the Parallels hosting provider, with no content from the body.45

Three more fallen addresses

The Castello di Rivoli had its own site at castellodirivoli.torino.it, documented from 29 April 1999 with pages on the collection and temporary exhibitions. The Teatro Stabile di Torino used teatrostabile.torino.it, archived from 8 December 1998 to March 2011, later replaced by another address. The Collegio Ipasvi di Torino (nurses) had ipasvi.torino.it, active from 16 November 2001 to November 2016, when the last snapshot (21 January 2022) shows by then only a "Domain Default page": all three institutions are still active today, but with web addresses different from their historic ones.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI

The Teatro Stabile di Torino used the address teatrostabile.torino.it in December 1998 to present its drama season; a snapshot from 8 January 2008 shows the same address occupied by a page of advertising links with no relation to the theatre.

The Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional association of nurses, used the address ipasvi.torino.it in November 2001; a snapshot from 21 January 2022 shows the address occupied by a promotional page for the Parallels virtualization software.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and IPASVI Torino: three fallen addresses

The site castellodirivoli.torino.it, already online in April 1999, presented the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea del Castello di Rivoli — whose permanent collection had been assembled starting in 1984, the year the museum opened — supported by Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, FIAT, Camera di Commercio di Torino, Telecom Italia and Città di Torino.1 The site teatrostabile.torino.it, which in December 1998 presented the 1998-99 drama season of the Teatro Stabile di Torino with a phone number for automated voice information,2 had by January 2008 turned into an advertising directory of links on topics such as hotels, dating and shopping, with no theatre content at all, and remained so in March 2011.3 The site ipasvi.torino.it, dedicated to the Collegio provinciale IPASVI (nurses) di Torino and active with professional news from at least 2001 to 2016,4 was reduced by January 2022 to a "Domain Default Page" generated by the Parallels hosting software.5

castellodirivoli.torino.it, teatrostabile.torino.it and ipasvi.torino.it in the web archive

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, the official site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, is already online on 29 April 1999, with institutional partners such as Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Fiat and Città di Torino; the archive records no further snapshots after 2000, while the museum remains active. The domain teatrostabile.torino.it hosted, in 1998, the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season; from 2008 the same domain, having become www2.teatrostabile.torino.it, is instead a portal of commercial links with no further ties to the theatre. The domain ipasvi.torino.it has been online since 16 November 2001 as the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino (nurses, health assistants and infant-care attendants); in the snapshot from 21 January 2022 it instead shows a default page for the Parallels virtualization product.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: three decommissioned .torino.it addresses

The Castello di Rivoli – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea used, between 1999 and 2000, the address castellodirivoli.torino.it, whose archived pages give its location as piazza Mafalda di Savoia in Rivoli, the permanent collection assembled starting in 1984, and the temporary exhibitions under way.

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it in the web archive

A page from 3 March 2000 announces the exhibitions «Quotidiana. Immagini della vita di ogni giorno nell’arte del XX secolo» and «Hannah Starkey. Un progetto per il Castello», opened on 4 February of that year.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it in the web archive

Already in January 2008, and still in March 2011, the same address instead shows a paid directory site with sponsored links on entirely different topics (travel, finance, fashion), a sign that the theatre had abandoned the domain.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it in the web archive

The domain ipasvi.torino.it, in the web archive from 16 November 2001, was the official site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino (professional nurses), still active with professional news in November 2016. In January 2022 the same address instead shows the default page of a Parallels hosting service, a sign that the domain had been abandoned.

The domain eng.sanlorenzo.torino.it in the web archive (2013-2020)

Between 2013 and 2020 the domain eng.sanlorenzo.torino.it hosted the English-language version of the site of the Real Chiesa di San Lorenzo, restored for the 1998 and 2000 expositions of the Sindone (Holy Shroud) and presented as a gem by the architect Guarino Guarini. The site, maintained by the church’s priests, also included a section devoted to its documented history.

Three examples: Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile, Collegio IPASVI (1998-2022)

The site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino at teatrostabile.torino.it presented, in December 1998, the programme for the 1998-99 drama season; by January 2008, and still in March 2011, the same address instead hosted a page of commercial links with no connection to the theatre, which is still active today under another site. The domain ipasvi.torino.it, of the Collegio provinciale IPASVI (nurses) di Torino, located at via Stellone 5, was still publishing professional news in November 2016; in January 2022 the same address showed only the default page of the Parallels hosting panel.

From cultural and healthcare homes to parked pages: teatrostabile.torino.it and ipasvi.torino.it

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, which in December 1998 hosted the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino with its drama season programme, by January 2008 presents itself as a generic paid search directory («Search on teatrostabile.torino.it!»), with sections on hotels, classified ads, fashion and finance unrelated to the theatre; the same page remains online at least until March 2011. The domain ipasvi.torino.it, the site of the Collegio provinciale IPASVI of nurses of Torino already online in November 2001, is instead found in January 2022 to have been replaced by a default page from the Parallels virtualization provider.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it: from the Teatro Stabile’s site to a page of commercial links (1998-2011)

By January 2008 the domain was instead found occupied by a search page with commercial links and sponsored results provided by Yahoo! Search Marketing, with no content left related to the theatre; the same situation is still found in the last available snapshot, from March 2011.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it: from the Collegio degli infermieri’s site to a default hosting page (2001-2022)

The domain ipasvi.torino.it hosted, in November 2001, the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino (Infermieri Professionali, Assistenti Sanitari, Vigilatrici d’Infanzia), with category news and services for members; in November 2016 it was still publishing the Collegio’s updates and announcements.

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it: from the museum’s site to a generic art blog (1999-2021)

In the snapshot from 20 June 2021 the domain instead presented itself as a generic blog devoted to «News, Curiosità, Quotazioni» about modern and contemporary art, with a biography of Andy Warhol and ads for the sale of paintings; the same version was still found online on 27 October 2021.

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it: from the museum’s site to a painting-sales site

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it hosted, in 1999, the official site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, with sections devoted to the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions and visiting the castle. In the 2021 captures, the same address instead showed a site devoted to the sale of paintings and art reproductions, with articles on Andy Warhol and other artists, with no connection to the museum.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it: from the Collegio infermieri’s site to the default page of a hosting panel

The domain ipasvi.torino.it had hosted, since 2001, the site of the Collegio IPASVI (professional nurses, health assistants, infant-care attendants) di Torino, with news for members, the code of ethics and advisory services; in 2016 the site was still active with newsletters and announcements for members. In January 2022 the same address instead showed the default page of a Parallels hosting panel, with no content at all from the Collegio.

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it: from the museum’s official site to a generic portal about Andy Warhol and painting sales

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it was first captured by the Internet Archive on 29 April 1999 as the official site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, supported by bodies including Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Fiat and Telecom Italia. In the 2021 copies the same address instead hosts a generic portal presented as devoted to «News, Curiosità, Quotazioni» about modern and contemporary art, with content such as a biography of Andy Warhol and a page on the sale of «large modern paintings», with no further link to the museum.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it: from the 1998-99 season programme to a generic link directory

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it was first captured by the Internet Archive on 5 December 1998, when it hosted the programme for the 1998-99 drama season of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with information on performances, subscriptions and bookings. In later copies, from 8 January 2008 to 8 March 2011, the same address — having in the meantime migrated to the www2 subdomain — instead hosts a generic directory of paid links, organized into sections such as «Alberghi e Hotel» (Hotels), «Annunci e Incontri» (Classifieds and Dating) and «Viaggi e Vacanze» (Travel and Holidays), with no reference whatsoever to the theatre.

Three fallen addresses: Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile, Collegio IPASVI

In the copy from 20 June 2021, however, the same address hosts a site unrelated to the museum, with a biography of Andy Warhol and ads for the sale of large-format modern paintings.

In the copy from 8 January 2008 the same address had become a generic link portal, organized into categories such as «Alberghi e Hotel» (Hotels) or «Moda» (Fashion), with no reference to the theatre; the situation had not changed in the last working copy, from 8 March 2011.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it was, in the copy from 16 November 2001, the site of the Collegio IPASVI (professional nurses) di Torino, with healthcare news; in the copy from 20 July 2016 it was still publishing the Collegio’s announcements and newsletters. In the last working copy, from 20 January 2022, the address shows, however, only the default page of a hosting provider.

Three .torino.it addresses of institutions still active

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, which in the first copy from 29 April 1999 hosted the site of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea del Castello di Rivoli, is found in the copy from 20 June 2021 occupied by a portal of ads and curiosities about art, with no further ties to the museum; the last copy with this content is from 27 October 2021.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, which in the first copy from 5 December 1998 presented the programme of the Teatro Stabile di Torino’s drama season, instead appears in the copy from 8 January 2008 as a search engine with classified sections (hotels, dating, housing, mobile phones), unrelated to the theatre.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it, the home of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino since 16 November 2001, with news and documents for members still present in the copy from 20 July 2016, in the last available copy, from 20 January 2022, already shows the default page of a hosting panel.

The ads on teatrostabile.torino.it, the peak of ipasvi.torino.it, and the promotional texts on castellodirivoli.torino.it

In the copies from 6 May 2006 and 30 June 2007, the search engine installed on the domain teatrostabile.torino.it organized sponsored ads by topic: under the heading «Moda» (Fashion) appeared listings from eBay, Bonprix and Euronova Italia, under «Amore» (Love) those from dating sites such as SuperEva, Meetic and Cupid.it; the same arrangement is still found in the copy from 8 March 2011, when the domain had already migrated to the www2 subdomain.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it reached its richest form on 20 July 2016, with a news archive, an «Amministrazione trasparente» (Transparent Administration) section and a restricted area for members with username and password; an internal page from 30 July 2016 still lists the office address, at via Stellone 5 in Turin, and the Collegio’s phone numbers.

On the domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, the copy from 20 June 2021 shows two promotional articles with no link to the museum: one devoted to a brief biography of Andy Warhol, the other to the sale of large modern paintings.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and IPASVI: three more addresses that fell into other hands

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it hosted, until the early 2000s, the official site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, supported by Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Fiat, Camera di commercio di Torino and Telecom Italia; in the 2021 snapshots the same address instead showed a generic portal of promotional articles about Andy Warhol and the sale of modern paintings, with no further link to the museum.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it hosted, in 1998, the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season and the box office’s contact details; by 2008 the same address had become a generic search page with lists of sponsored links on hotels, dating, fashion and finance, remaining so at least until 2011.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: three addresses that became something else (1998-2022)

In the snapshot from 20 June 2021 the same address publishes a generic portal of «news, curiosities and quotes» about modern and contemporary art, with articles such as a biography of Andy Warhol and ads for the sale of paintings, with no further ties to the museum. The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, in the snapshot from 5 December 1998, is the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season; in the snapshot from 8 January 2008 the same address hosts a search portal with sections such as «Alberghi e Hotel» (Hotels) and «Annunci e Incontri» (Classifieds and Dating), with no theatre content. The domain ipasvi.torino.it, in the snapshot from 16 November 2001, is the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional association of nurses; in the snapshot from 20 January 2022 the address shows a «Domain Default page» from the Parallels virtualization provider.

The Castello di Rivoli’s site, between culture and unrelated articles (1999-2021)

The site castellodirivoli.torino.it, the official site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in the web archive’s snapshot from 29 April 1999, is still in 2021 a news portal about the museum. In the snapshot from 20 June 2021, however, the same domain also publishes an article unrelated to the museum, titled «Vendo Dipinti e Quadri Moderni Grandi Dimensioni» (Selling Modern Paintings and Large Pictures), aimed at those looking for large paintings to furnish offices.

The Teatro Stabile’s site turned into an advertising directory (1998-2011)

The site teatrostabile.torino.it, the official site of the Teatro Stabile Torino in the web archive’s snapshot from 5 December 1998, instead hosts, in the snapshots from 6 May 2006 and 30 June 2007, advertising directory pages unrelated to the theatre, titled «Moda» (Fashion) and «Servizi» (Services), with lists of links on topics such as financing, travel and weight loss; in the snapshot from 8 March 2011, with the address changed to www2.teatrostabile.torino.it, the domain still carries the name «teatrostabile.torino.it» in the page title.

The Collegio IPASVI di Torino’s site, today a default page (2001-2022)

The site ipasvi.torino.it of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, already online in the web archive’s snapshot from 16 November 2001, publishes, in the snapshot from 30 July 2016, conference proceedings, training courses and a newsletter archive from 2011 to 2014. In the snapshot from 20 January 2022 the same domain instead returns a «Domain Default page», the default page shown by the hosting provider when no site has been published.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: three addresses that ended up with other content

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, the museum’s site in the web archive’s snapshot from 29 April 1999, hosts, in the snapshot from 20 June 2021, a portal of generic content about art and curiosities, with no ties to the museum, with articles such as a guide to the sale of «large modern paintings and pictures». The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino in the snapshot from 5 December 1998, becomes, by 8 January 2008, a generic search engine with sections on hotels, classifieds, fashion and finance, unrelated to the theatre.

The institutional origins of three addresses: Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI (1998-2001)

Before being reused for other content, the three addresses were the official sites of their respective institutions. The first snapshot of teatrostabile.torino.it, from 5 December 1998, shows the site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino for the 1998-99 drama season, with the programme, subscriptions and an automated voice information telephone service.

The second lives of the three addresses: from institutional sites to link farms and parked pages (2008-2022)

The domain of the Castello di Rivoli, castellodirivoli.torino.it, stops being the museum’s site and becomes, in the June 2021 snapshot, a generic portal of articles about art with content such as a biography of Andy Warhol and an ad «Vendo Dipinti e Quadri Moderni Grandi Dimensioni» (Selling Modern Paintings and Large Pictures), with no reference at all to the Rivoli museum. The domain of the Teatro Stabile, teatrostabile.torino.it, had already turned, by January 2008, into a directory of sponsored links organized into generic categories (Hotels, Classifieds and Dating, Fashion, Services...), a structure that persists at least until March 2011 on the www2 subdomain. The domain of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, ipasvi.torino.it, instead remains an active site of the body at least until 2016 — with newsletters, announcements and documents from the Collegio — but in the January 2022 snapshot shows only the default page of the Parallels hosting panel, a sign that the professional association had abandoned that address.

Three further cases: Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile, IPASVI

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, which in the snapshot from 29 April 1999 hosted the official site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, in the snapshots from 20 June 2021 instead shows a page titled «Vendo Dipinti e Quadri Moderni Grandi Dimensioni» (Selling Modern Paintings and Large Pictures), unrelated to the museum, which in the meantime continues to exist under another address. The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino in the snapshot from 5 December 1998, appears, in the snapshots from 8 January 2008 and 8 March 2011, as a generic page listing addresses, with no relation to the theatre. The domain ipasvi.torino.it, the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino in the snapshots from 16 November 2001 to 20 July 2016, is found, in the snapshot from 20 January 2022, to be a «Domain Default page», the default page of a hosting service, with no content.

Three further cases: Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile, IPASVI

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it was the first official site of the Castello di Rivoli museum, online from 1999. By 2021 the address had been taken over by a generic site devoted to news and curiosities about art, with content such as a biography of Andy Warhol and ads for the sale of paintings, with no connection to the museum, which in the meantime continues its activity under another address.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, the site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino since 1998, already showed, in 2008, a list of sections unrelated to theatre activity (hotels, classifieds, mobile phones, electronics, shopping), typical of a domain that had expired and been taken over by a portal of generic links; the situation remained unchanged in 2011.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it, the site of the Collegio provinciale IPASVI di Torino (nurses) active since 2001, still presented its own news and institutional sections in 2016; in 2022, however, it showed a «Domain Default Page» with a description of the Parallels virtualization product, a sign of a domain that had expired and was no longer managed by the Collegio.

teatrostabile.torino.it, a second domain that ended up in a link portal (1998-2011)

teatrostabile.torino.it too, online since 5 December 1998 as the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season, had become, by 8 January 2008, a generic portal of advertising links, remaining so at least until 8 March 2011.

castellodirivoli.torino.it: from the museum’s site to a blog about Andy Warhol and painting sales (1999-2021)

In the snapshot from 20 June 2021 the same address instead presents a blog of generic content about the art market, with articles such as «Andy Warhol: Biografia Breve ed Opere» (Andy Warhol: Brief Biography and Works) and «Vendo Dipinti e Quadri Moderni Grandi Dimensioni» (Selling Modern Paintings and Large Pictures), with no link to the museum.

teatrostabile.torino.it: from the 1998-99 season programme to a directory of generic links (1998-2011)

In the snapshot from 8 January 2008 the same address instead shows a directory of generic links, with sections such as «Alberghi e Hotel» (Hotels), «Annunci e Incontri» (Classifieds and Dating) and «Cellulari» (Mobile Phones), still present in the last available snapshot, from 8 March 2011.

ipasvi.torino.it: from the Collegio IPASVI’s site to a default hosting page (2001-2022)

The first snapshot of the domain ipasvi.torino.it, from 16 November 2001, hosts the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional association of nurses, still active in the snapshot from 20 July 2016.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: more addresses that ended up elsewhere

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, home to the museum’s site in snapshots from 1999 onward, is found in the snapshot from 20 June 2021 occupied by a generic blog about art and curiosities, with articles on Andy Warhol and the sale of paintings, with no link to the museum. The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, home of the Teatro Stabile di Torino in 1998-99, instead hosts, in the snapshot from 30 June 2007, an advertising directory of links on tourism, finance and leisure. The domain ipasvi.torino.it, the site of the Collegio provinciale IPASVI di Torino between 2001 and 2016, finally shows, in the snapshot from 20 January 2022, a default page from the Parallels virtualization provider.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, from the online archive to the parked page (2001-2022)

The domain ipasvi.torino.it has hosted, since 2001, the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the provincial professional association of nurses: in the snapshot from 16 November 2001 it offers sector news, the list of members and the code of ethics; in the one from 20 July 2016, a restricted area for members and an archive of conference proceedings and newsletters from 2011 onward.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: three reused addresses

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, home of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in the snapshot from 29 April 1999, is later reused for a third-party site that, in the snapshot from 20 June 2021, publishes a brief biography of Andy Warhol together with a page selling paintings and modern pictures. The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, home of the Teatro Stabile di Torino with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season in the snapshot from 5 December 1998, becomes, by the snapshot from 30 June 2007, a generic search portal with sections on hotels, classifieds, financing and travel.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: three .torino.it addresses

The historic address castellodirivoli.torino.it of the Castello di Rivoli - Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, online since 29 April 1999, hosts, in the snapshot from 20 June 2021, a third-party site devoted to news and quotes from the art market, bearing the same name as the museum without being its official address. The address ipasvi.torino.it of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, active since 16 November 2001, is finally found, in the last live snapshot from 20 January 2022, to be a default page from the Parallels hosting provider.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: three .torino.it addresses that ended up elsewhere

By 2007 the same address had become a generic search page with advertising columns on hotels, finance and shopping, with no reference to the theatre.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it was the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional association of nurses, active at least until 2016 with news, newsletters and documents for members.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, from the theatre’s site to a link directory

Online since 5 December 1998 as the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season and sections devoted to productions and guest performances, the domain teatrostabile.torino.it changes purpose in later years: on 30 June 2007 it hosts a directory of generic-topic links («Net Ricerche»), with categories such as Hotels, Mobile Phones, Horoscope and Travel, with no content left related to the theatre.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it, from the Collegio to the server’s default page

Online at least since 16 November 2001 as the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, with professional news and sections on members, the governing board and legal advice, the domain ipasvi.torino.it is found still active as the Collegio’s site on 20 July 2016. On 20 January 2022 the address instead shows the default page of a virtual server, with promotional text from the software provider Parallels.

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, from the museum’s site to a showcase of art items for sale

In its first snapshot, from 29 April 1999, the site castellodirivoli.torino.it was the official page of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, last updated on 23 April of that year and credited to Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, Fiat, Camera di Commercio di Torino and Telecom Italia, as well as Città di Torino. By 2021 the same address no longer belonged to the museum: it hosted a site of art content with no institutional connection, with a biography of Andy Warhol and articles devoted to the sale of large modern paintings.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, from the Teatro Stabile’s programme to a paid link directory

In its first snapshot, from 5 December 1998, the site teatrostabile.torino.it was the official page of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season, information for purchasing subscriptions and an automated telephone information service, last updated on 24 November 1998. By 2007 the address, having in the meantime become www2.teatrostabile.torino.it, was no longer linked to the theatre: it was a generic directory of paid links organized into categories such as hotels, finance or electronics, with no theatre content at all.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it, from the nurses’ association to a default hosting page

In its first snapshot, from 16 November 2001, the site ipasvi.torino.it was the official page of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional register of nurses, with sector news and information about membership. In July 2016 the site, with its office given as via Stellone 5 in Turin, was still publishing announcements, newsletters and documents from the Collegio. In January 2022 the same address instead showed a default page from a hosting provider, devoted to the Parallels virtualization software, with no content from the Collegio left at all.

Three .torino.it addresses, before and after

The subdomain castellodirivoli.torino.it, which in April 1999 presented the homepage of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea del Castello di Rivoli with sections devoted to the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, by June 2021 instead led to a portal of generic articles about artists such as Andy Warhol and about the sale of large modern paintings, with no link to the museum. ipasvi.torino.it too, the homepage of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino with news from the nursing sector already in November 2001, showed, in January 2022, an advertising page for the Parallels virtualization software.

Another dead address: the Castello di Rivoli

The address castellodirivoli.torino.it hosted, in 1999, the site of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea del Castello di Rivoli; by 2021 it had become a generic portal of «news, curiosities and quotes» about art and artists, with no further ties to the museum, which nonetheless remains active under another address.

teatrostabile.torino.it and ipasvi.torino.it

The Teatro Stabile di Torino, still active, had on the site teatrostabile.torino.it the programme of its seasons starting in December 1998; after the last update recorded by the archive, in June 2007, the address was repurposed into a generic portal of ads (hotels, mobile phones, classifieds and dating). The Collegio IPASVI di Torino (today the Ordine delle Professioni Infermieristiche), also active, had on the site ipasvi.torino.it news and documents from November 2001 to 2016; in the last snapshot collected, from January 2022, the address shows only the default page of the hosting provider.

Teatro Stabile and Collegio IPASVI: from active sites to reused addresses

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it hosted the site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino from December 1998 to 2007; in June 2007 the same address instead showed a generic portal of classifieds and search, with no further ties to the theatre.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and IPASVI: three addresses that ended up elsewhere

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it was the site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino at least from December 1998, with the drama season’s programme; in June 2007 the same address had become an advertising directory of links to content unrelated to the theatre. The domain ipasvi.torino.it was the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional association of nurses, at least from November 2001; in January 2022 it instead showed the default page of the Parallels hosting provider.

castellodirivoli.torino.it, teatrostabile.torino.it and ipasvi.torino.it: three addresses that ended up as something else

By 20 June 2021 the same domain hosted content entirely unrelated to the museum, which remained until the last useful snapshot of 27 October 2021: a portal devoted to artist biographies and the sale of paintings, with pages on Andy Warhol, Mr. Brainwash and Romero Britto. The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, from 5 December 1998, was the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season and an automated voice information telephone service; in the last useful snapshot, from 30 June 2007, the same domain had become a generic search directory, organized into categories such as «Alberghi e Hotel» (Hotels), «Finanza» (Finance) and «Servizi» (Services), with no link to the theatre. The domain ipasvi.torino.it, from 16 November 2001, was the site of the Collegio IPASVI (nurses) di Torino, still active in 2016 with newsletters and announcements for members; in the last useful snapshot, from 20 January 2022, it instead showed the English-language default page of the Parallels hosting provider.

castellodirivoli.torino.it, teatrostabile.torino.it and ipasvi.torino.it, three addresses that ended up in other use

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, online since 5 December 1998 as the site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, turns, by 30 June 2007, into a generic directory page with advertising links on travel, courses and finance. The domain ipasvi.torino.it, the site of the Collegio IPASVI (nurses) di Torino active at least since 16 November 2001, is found on 20 January 2022 reduced to the default page of a Parallels hosting panel.

Three .torino.it addresses that slipped out of the institutions’ control

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it, which in December 1998 presents the Teatro Stabile di Torino’s drama season, in the last available survey, from 30 June 2007, returns a generic advertising directory, with categories such as «Alberghi e Hotel» (Hotels) or «Finanza» (Finance) and no reference to the theatre.

Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile and IPASVI: three .torino.it addresses that ended up in other use

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it was the first site of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea: the survey from 29 April 1999 shows its institutional homepage, with the list of activities and founding members (Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Fiat, Città di Torino). The museum is still alive today under another address, but the old .torino.it domain changes hands: the surveys from 20 June and 27 October 2021 show it occupied by a site of generic content about art and the sale of paintings, with no link to the museum. teatrostabile.torino.it follows the same path, the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino recorded from 5 December 1998 with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season: in the survey from 30 June 2007 the domain instead hosts a generic search portal, with columns on hotels, electronics and finance that have nothing to do with theatre, still active today with its own site. ipasvi.torino.it too, the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino recorded from 16 November 2001 with news for registered nurses, stops representing the body: the survey from 20 January 2022 shows only the default page of the Parallels hosting provider, while the Collegio continues its activity at another address.

Three expired addresses: the museum, the theatre and the professional association

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it was for years the museum’s official site: the survey from 29 April 1999 shows its homepage with the patronage of Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Fiat, Camera di Commercio di Torino and Telecom Italia; the last available survey, from 27 October 2021, instead shows the domain repurposed into a site selling paintings and pictures, with promotional content about Andy Warhol with no link to the museum. The domain teatrostabile.torino.it was the official site of the Teatro Stabile from as early as 5 December 1998, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season; the survey from 30 June 2007, the last available, instead shows it turned into a generic search portal, with categories unrelated to theatre such as «Alberghi e Hotel» (Hotels) or «Hosting e Domini» (Hosting and Domains). The domain ipasvi.torino.it was the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional association of nurses: the survey from 16 November 2001 already shows its first institutional news, while the one from 20 July 2016 documents it still active, with announcements and documents from the Collegio; the last available survey, from 20 January 2022, instead shows the default page of the Parallels hosting provider, a sign that the domain was no longer being renewed by the association.

Three new examples: Castello di Rivoli, Teatro Stabile, Collegio IPASVI

The Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea has been online at castellodirivoli.torino.it since 29 April 1999; in 2021 the site is still active with pages of art news, but among the content also appear articles unrelated to the museum’s programme, such as a page «Vendo dipinti e quadri moderni grandi dimensioni» (Selling modern paintings and large pictures). The Teatro Stabile di Torino has been at teatrostabile.torino.it since December 1998; the last snapshot, from 30 June 2007, still shows the site active with the sections «Servizi» (Services), «Temi» (Topics) and «Corsi» (Courses), after which the domain is no longer archived. The Collegio IPASVI (nurses) di Torino has been at ipasvi.torino.it from 16 November 2001 to 20 January 2022, when the last snapshot shows a default page for the domain: all three institutions remain active, but under other web addresses.

The domain castellodirivoli.torino.it

In the last snapshot kept by the archive, from 27 October 2021, the domain is no longer linked to the museum: the page presents itself as a generic portal of articles about artists and the sale of paintings, unrelated to the institution.

The domain teatrostabile.torino.it

In the last snapshot with the site still active kept by the archive, from 30 June 2007, the domain instead hosts a generic directory of advertising links, with no connection to the theatre.

The domain ipasvi.torino.it

In the last snapshot kept by the archive, from 20 January 2022, the domain shows the default page of a hosting provider (Parallels), a sign that the site is no longer managed by the Collegio.

castellodirivoli.torino.it, teatrostabile.torino.it, ipasvi.torino.it

The Castello di Rivoli has been online at castellodirivoli.torino.it since 29 April 1999; the last snapshot kept by the archive, from 27 October 2021, however shows the domain occupied by content unrelated to the institution.

Three addresses, three different fates

The domain of the Teatro Stabile, teatrostabile.torino.it, is documented from 5 December 1998 under the theatre’s name.6 In the copy from 30 June 2007, the last with active content, the same address instead hosts a directory of advertising links with no relation to the theatre, organized into sections such as «Alberghi e Hotel» (Hotels) and «Annunci e Incontri» (Classifieds and Dating).7

The domain of the professional association IPASVI di Torino, ipasvi.torino.it, active since 16 November 2001, still showed its own site in the copy from 20 July 2016;89 in the copy from 20 January 2022 the address instead returns the default panel of a hosting provider (Parallels/Plesk), with no site configured.10

A command, an association, a municipal project

The Comando Provinciale dei Vigili del Fuoco di Torino had its own site at vvf.torino.it, already online from 2 February 1998[1]; the last known snapshot, from October 2019, still shows it reachable under the same name, after which the address disappears from the archive[2]. The association A.Pi.C.E. (Associazione Piemontese Contro l’Epilessia) likewise used apice.torino.it from June 2003[3] until at least June 2017, when the site was still inviting people to donate their 5 per mille[4]. The municipal project OfficinaCittàTorino (OCT) had its own site at oct.torino.it from February 2001[5]; the last snapshot, from April 2009, warns visitors that «the OCT site has changed address» and redirects them elsewhere within ten seconds[6].

Two archival details: the firefighters’ address and A.Pi.C.E.’s poetry competition

A snapshot from 20 July 2003 shows the site vvf.torino.it with the Comando Provinciale’s office at corso Regina Margherita 330 and the email address info@vvf.to.it, as well as restricted access to an internal intranet.[1] The site apice.torino.it, in the snapshot from 5 August 2007, instead shows the association A.Pi.C.E. (Associazione Piemontese Contro l’Epilessia) busy organizing, for that year, an event for poetry writers, called «Targa Poesia» and open to everyone.[2]

teatrostabile.torino.it: from drama seasons to a generic search engine (1998–2007)

Search Marketing»: the page «Servizi» (Services), for example, lists commercial categories with no connection to the theatre, such as New Year, Seaside, Holidays, Financing, Fortune-telling and Removals.[3][4]

ipasvi.torino.it: from the Collegio provinciale to a default page (2001–2022)

In the snapshot from 16 November 2001 the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional register of nurses, publishes current healthcare news, such as a diabetes epidemic affecting 150 million people worldwide.[1] In the snapshot from 20 July 2016 the site is still active as the «Collegio provinciale di Torino», with a restricted area for members, a document archive, press releases and a position paper sent to the Consiglio regionale del Piemonte on the competencies of the paediatric nurse.[2]

Two pages of the domain, devoted to the keywords «Temi» (Topics) and «Corsi» (Courses), show that the conversion into an advertising directory had already taken place by 29 July 2007, more than six months before the first snapshot with this type of content known until now, dated January 2008.

What remained on teatrostabile.torino.it

In April 1999 teatrostabile.torino.it was the official site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino, with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season, guest performances, the subscription offer for young people and how to purchase tickets.1 In July 2007 one of its subpages, servizi/corsi, no longer belonged to the theatre: it showed a list of sponsored links unrelated to theatre activity, from online course ads to travel offers.2

Three «.torino.it» addresses in the web archive

The Teatro Stabile di Torino had its own site at teatrostabile.torino.it: the copy from 5 December 1998 presented the programme for the 1998-99 drama season and a telephone voice information service at the number 011 5169490.

Examples of web addresses that changed hands

The site of the Castello di Rivoli (castellodirivoli.torino.it), already online in 1999, listed among the museum’s supporting bodies the Regione Piemonte, the Fondazione Crt, the Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, Fiat, the Camera di Commercio, Industria, Artigianato e Agricoltura di Torino, Telecom Italia and the Città di Torino; in 2021 the same address instead hosted a generic site about the art market, unrelated to the museum.[1][2] The site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino (teatrostabile.torino.it), active in 1998 with the programme for the 1998-99 drama season and an automated telephone information service at the number 0115169490, had by 2007 become a generic advertising directory with no connection to the theatre.[3][4] The site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino (ipasvi.torino.it), online from 2001 with the professional association’s news, was instead found, in 2022, to be a «Domain Default page» generated by the Parallels software.[5][6]

The Collegio IPASVI at the height of its activity, in 2016

In the snapshot from 20 July 2016, when the site was at the height of its activity, the homepage of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino set alongside its professional news — the requirement for all members to activate a certified email address (PEC), an update on proposals to renew insurance policies, and the schedule of interviews for training volunteer guardians and support administrators — three quotations from Albert Einstein, Ludwig Wittgenstein and Robert Louis Stevenson.1

A subpage from the same period, dated 30 July 2016, gave the Collegio’s office as via Stellone 5 in Turin, along with its phone numbers, fax and tax code.2

Three addresses, before and after

In 1999 the address castellodirivoli.torino.it hosts the site of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Castello di Rivoli, supported by Regione Piemonte, Fondazione CRT, Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, FIAT, Camera di Commercio di Torino, Telecom Italia and Città di Torino; in 2021 the same address instead hosts a generic portal of news and quotes about artists and artworks, with content such as a biography of Andy Warhol and a guide to selling large modern paintings, with no link to the museum.1,2 In 1998 the address teatrostabile.torino.it hosts the site of the Teatro Stabile di Torino for the 1998-99 drama season, with the performance programme and an automated voice information service at the number 011 5169490; in 2007 the same address instead hosts a generic directory of links on tourism, shopping and leisure.3,4 In 2001 the address ipasvi.torino.it hosts the site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, the professional association of nurses, with healthcare news and services for registered members; in 2022 the same address instead shows the default page of the Parallels virtualization software.5,6

ipasvi.torino.it, from the professional association to the default page

The site of the Collegio IPASVI di Torino, with copies from November 2001, remained up to date at least until 2016-2018, with an archive of conferences, documents and newsletters restricted to members; in January 2022 the same address showed only the default page of the Parallels hosting provider.1,2

The sites castellodirivoli.torino.it, teatrostabile.torino.it and ipasvi.torino.it

The Castello di Rivoli had a site at the domain castellodirivoli.torino.it, recorded by the web archive as the museum’s official site from 1999-04-29, while in the copy from 2021-06-20 the address was found occupied by a generic news portal about art, with no further direct links to the museum. The Teatro Stabile di Torino had a site at the domain teatrostabile.torino.it, recorded by the web archive as the theatre’s site between 1998-12-05 and 1999-04-21, while the copy from 2007-06-30 showed the address occupied by a generic search engine with no further links to the theatre. The Collegio IPASVI di Torino had a site at the domain ipasvi.torino.it, recorded by the web archive as the professional association’s site between 2001-11-16 and 2016-07-20, while in the copy from 2022-01-20 the address showed a default page from the Parallels hosting provider.
