eng.sanlorenzo.torino.it was the English-language section of the institutional site of the Royal Church of San Lorenzo, on via Palazzo di Città 4 in Turin, next to Piazza Castello: the first archive snapshot dates to 4 April 2013.1

According to the site, the church was commissioned by Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy in fulfilment of a vow made during the Battle of St. Quentin, won on 10 August 1557, the feast of St. Lawrence: the design and construction of the building were entrusted to the Theatine architect Guarino Guarini, called to Turin in 1666, who oversaw the works in every detail until the inaugural mass on 11 May 1680.1

The site also recounted the church's link to the Shroud of Turin: brought to Turin in 1578, it was kept in the chapel at the entrance of the present-day church (now the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows) until 1694, when it was moved to the chapel built by Guarini between the Cathedral and Palazzo Reale.12
