Salvatore Ciufo
Salvatore Ciufo is a physical education teacher from Alba, in the province of Cuneo. According to la Repubblica Torino he teaches at the Govone institute in Alba, while according to IdeaWebTv he teaches at the Pinot Gallizio art high school [1][2]. He previously played basketball in the Serie B and Serie C championships [1].
The Guinness record
Ciufo devised a new record category, called "Most wall bounces in one minute with three basketballs", approved in the preceding months by the Guinness World Records committee in London [1]. The attempt took place on 18 May 2026 in the gym of Alba's high schools, inside the Sobrino park in Alba, under the technical direction of timekeepers Massimo Rattalino and Matteo Bonfitto of the Asd Cronometristi Cuneo "Giovanni Fresia", with official witnesses the president of the Province of Cuneo Luca Robaldo, the mayor of Alba Alberto Gatto and the regional councillor Daniele Sobrero [1]. Ciufo achieved 175 valid bounces in one minute, surpassing the minimum threshold of 165 set on the basis of a previous performance [1]. The record was ratified and published on the official Guinness World Records register in late October 2026 [2].
The award ceremony
On 3 November 2026 Ciufo received the official certificate in the gym of the Alba high schools, at the Sobrino park. The ceremony was attended by headteacher Roberto Buongarzone, the president of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio, the mayor of Alba Alberto Gatto, the president of the Province of Cuneo Luca Robaldo and the regional councillor Daniele Sobrero [1].
Statements
Ciufo said he had set up his own bedroom to train for the exercise, chosen among a series of thirty trials devised for the attempt [1]. He described his feat as a unique case, stating that, after research carried out following the recognition, he was the first person in the world to perform this coordination exercise as a physical education teacher and former basketball player [1]. During the press conference he attributed an educational meaning to the record, presenting it as a practical example of the study of biomechanics and neuromuscular coordination aimed at his own students [2].
Local context
According to la Repubblica Torino, the record is a first for Alba, which had never previously had any record holders recognised by Guinness World Records; the province of Cuneo, however, had already registered other cases, such as DJ Faber Moreira's 244 consecutive hours of continuous set in Saluzzo in May 2024 and the recognition for the largest oak barrel in the world awarded to the Roberto Sarotto winery in Neviglie in July 2022 [1].
