la Repubblica Torino is the local edition dedicated to Turin and Piedmont of the newspaper la Repubblica, founded by Eugenio Scalfari and first published in January 1976. The online version of the paper was launched on an experimental basis in April 1996 on the site repubblica.it, of which torino.repubblica.it is the local section. [1]

For years the Turin editorial office was based on Via Roma. On Saturday 27 May 2017 it moved to Via Lugaro, into the open-plan spaces of the same building as La Stampa: a move completed in under forty-eight hours and seen in the city as the first step towards the merger between Gruppo Espresso and Itedi, the publishers of the two newspapers, which gave rise to the GEDI group. [2] In 2026 the paths of the two papers diverged: on 23 March GEDI was sold entirely to the Greek Antenna group owned by the Kyriakou family, which retained la Repubblica, while La Stampa passed to Gruppo SAE. [3]

Since 13 July 2026 the editorship of the newspaper, and therefore also of its local editions, has been held on an interim basis by Stefano Cappellini, who joined la Repubblica's editorial staff in 2016. [4] The site torino.repubblica.it publishes news, politics, business, culture and sport coverage of Turin and the region. In the Torino Top 100 ranking for September 2026, the site features among the 5,000 most visited sites in Italy according to Google's Chrome UX Report.
