La Sentinella del Canavese

La Sentinella del Canavese is the historic newspaper of Ivrea, founded in 1893[1]. Since April 2023 it has appeared on newsstands four times a week — Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday — with a themed focus for each day: sport on Monday, economy on Wednesday, family on Friday and in-depth features on Saturday[4].

In recent years the GEDI group, controlled by the Agnelli-Elkann family's Exor holding, has sold off nearly all its local papers, including Il Secolo XIX and Il Piccolo, and by the end of 2025 La Sentinella was the only local title still under its control[3][1]. On 23 December 2025 GEDI announced it had signed a preliminary agreement to sell the paper to Ledi srl, a company wholly owned by the Fondazione Carella Donata and publisher of the daily L'Edicola, with completion expected by January and the sale taking effect from 1 February 2026, subject to union procedures and the signing of the notarial deed[2]. Ledi is controlled by the Ladisa family of Puglia, active in catering, which had previously run La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno on a temporary basis[1][3].

The paper and its site lasentinella.it cover Ivrea and the surrounding municipalities, from upper Canavese to lower Canavese as far as Caluso and Chivasso, an area north-east of Torino that reaches into the lower Aosta Valley[4][3]. In the Torino Top 100 ranking for September 2026, the site ranks among the 10,000 most-visited sites in Italy according to Google's Chrome UX Report.
