Meeting between Cirio, Lo Russo and Filosa on Mirafiori

On 9 October 2026, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, in Turin to take part in the Wave by Vento technology event at the OGR, held two separate meetings with the President of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio and with the Mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo. Both discussions centred on the future of the Mirafiori plant, which is struggling due to falling demand for the Fiat 500, both in its hybrid and electric versions.[1][2]

The meeting at the Grattacielo Piemonte

The first meeting took place at the Piedmont Region's Grattacielo, where Filosa held talks with Cirio, with the Deputy President with responsibility for Labour Maurizio Marrone, and with the Councillor for Productive Activities Andrea Tronzano. Cirio stated that the relaunch of production and employment at Mirafiori were at the centre of the meeting, pointing out that Turin's production levels are still far from what is needed to guarantee full employment, but are growing compared with the figures for 2025.[1][2]

Marrone and Tronzano added that, aware of the difficulties of a market affected by the cost of raw materials and energy and by competition from outside Europe, the Region continues to ask Stellantis to keep a high level of attention on Mirafiori and on full employment, for which they consider it important that a second production model be introduced alongside the Fiat 500. They also stated that the Region continues to work with the government to obtain measures from Europe to protect vehicles produced in Europe, in support of the national and European production chain.[1][2]

The meeting at Palazzo Civico

The second meeting was held at Palazzo Civico between Filosa and Mayor Lo Russo, who reiterated the need to ensure continuity in the investment strategy for the Mirafiori site, to increase production volumes and to broaden the range of vehicles produced by adding further models alongside the Fiat 500. Lo Russo welcomed the trend in gearbox production, describing it as an important piece for the plant, and indicated that production volumes and diversification were decisive in giving solidity to investments and protecting employment.[1][2]

Requests to the government

The mayor stressed the need for greater decisiveness on the part of the Italian government, arguing that the automotive crisis requires a stronger industrial policy, with adequate resources and clear timeframes. According to Lo Russo, measures are needed to reduce energy costs, support business competitiveness, tax breaks and grants, including non-repayable ones, to encourage productive investment, innovation and the creation of stable jobs, as well as effective investment incentive tools and simplified procedures to attract new businesses and strengthen existing ones.[2]

Lo Russo finally recalled the value of Turin's entire automotive system, citing the quality of the supply chain, the expertise of the engineering, design, research and development hubs, and the professional heritage present in the area.[1]
