CSI Piemonte is a consortium of public bodies based in Turin that designs, builds and manages computer systems and digital services for the Piedmont Region and for numerous public bodies in the Piedmont area. The consortium acts as the technical reference body for the digital innovation of the regional public administration.

Activities

CSI Piemonte develops platforms and IT tools for public bodies, with particular attention to technological innovation applied to public administration. Its areas of work include the development of solutions based on generative artificial intelligence.

Auxil.ia Piemonte

On 17 September 2026 the Piedmont Region presented Auxil.ia Piemonte, a generative artificial intelligence platform designed by the CSI Piemonte consortium to be made available to the public administration. The platform provides intelligent digital assistants, personalised according to the needs of mayors, provincial presidents, executives, directors and public administrators [1][2].

The President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, presented the tool at a press conference, in the presence of the Minister for Public Administration Paolo Zangrillo, describing Piedmont as «the first region in Italy to present, to build an artificial intelligence system linked to public administration» [2].

Auxil.ia Piemonte interacts both with models hosted on the regional cloud and with market models, with the aim of turning artificial intelligence into a governed service compliant with AgID guidelines and the European regulation on artificial intelligence (the AI Act). The platform was designed to be governed and secure, optimised for use by public employees, with data managed under the full control and responsibility of the relevant body [2].

The origins of the Consortium

Csi-Piemonte, the Consortium for the information system, was established in 1977 on the joint decision and initiative of the Piedmont Region, the University of Turin and the Politecnico di Torino.1

In March 1990 the Consortium concluded a cooperation agreement with Elea, an Olivetti Information Services company, for the training of local government staff.2

In February 1999 Piedmont became the first Italian region to sign an agreement with Inps to link their respective databases.3

In April 2002 Csi-Piemonte opened a decentralised office in Cuneo, at corso Nizza 5.4

The 1977 founding and the first agreements

The consortium was founded in 1977 on the joint initiative of the Piedmont Region, the University of Turin and the Politecnico di Torino, open to membership by public bodies in Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta.1

In February 1999 Piedmont was the first Italian region to sign an agreement with Inps to link the institute's databases with those of the municipalities.3

On 9 April 2002 Csi-Piemonte opened a decentralised office in Cuneo, at corso Nizza 5.4
