Appointment of Andrea Ganelli as president of the Circolo dei lettori

On 5 October 2026 the regional government of Piedmont appointed Andrea Ganelli as the new president of the Fondazione Circolo dei lettori of Turin and of its management board, replacing Giulio Biino, who had led the institution for eight years. According to the Foundation's statute, the appointment lasts for three financial years.[1]

The appointment

Ganelli's selection follows a public call for applications published on 13 August 2026; his candidacy was judged the most suitable for the role. A Turin notary born in 1971, Ganelli is described by the Region as bringing technical and legal expertise together with an interest in culture and art cultivated outside his profession as well.[1]

Statements

The President of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio, Vice President Maurizio Marrone and the Regional Councillor for Culture Marina Chiarelli commented on the appointment, calling it "a high-profile choice" and thanking Giulio Biino for the work he carried out, a period during which, in their view, the Circolo dei lettori became a point of reference at the national level and took on a role in organizing the Salone del Libro di Torino.[1]

In his first statement, Andrea Ganelli thanked Cirio and the regional government for the appointment and declared his intention to continue his predecessor's work, with the aim of also making the Circolo "a hub for debate on the future of Turin and Piedmont." The appointment comes as the Circolo dei lettori marks its first twenty years of activity and as the Salone del Libro approaches its fortieth edition.[1]
