The prosthesis's journey: from the first fitting to 3D-printed carbon fibre (2025-2026)

In 2025 the Officina Ortopedica Maria Adelaide provides a first prosthesis to a young Palestinian patient who arrived in Turin from Gaza after the amputation of his right leg; in May 2026 it produces a second, custom-made carbon-fibre device for him, using 3D printing, under an agreement with the Asl. On the prosthesis, made of carbon fibre using 3D printing under an agreement with the Asl, the Third Paradise is depicted, the symbol created by Michelangelo Pistoletto to represent the search for a new balance between nature and artifice. The initiative, born from an idea of the Officina's CEO, Roberto Ariagno, is presented as a gesture of art and solidarity linked to the tragedy of the war in Gaza.

On the night between 19 and 20 May 2025, a missile attack had struck his family's home in Gaza, killing around ten relatives; the child, who lost his right leg in the attack, was evacuated to Italy as part of the Food for Gaza humanitarian mission, coordinated by the Piedmont Region with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and taken into care by the Regina Margherita hospital in Turin.

Ariagno described the tragedy of Gaza as something that «must shake the conscience of each of us», while the vice-president of the Fondazione Omi, Pierumberto Ferrero, recalled that the organisation already hosts, in its own courtyard, an installation of the Third Paradise of Education.
