From the evening of Monday 26 October 2026, students occupy the Luigi Einaudi Campus, the site of the University of Turin on lungo Dora Savona that houses, among others, the Law and Political Science faculties. After an assembly and a march inside the campus, the occupiers entered a building of the Law faculty and shut the gate on lungo Dora Savona.[1] According to La Voce e il Tempo, more than 500 people took part in the occupation, after an assembly attended by over 300 students.[3]

Who is occupying

Sources attribute the initiative to different groups. TorinoOggi traces it to the Collettivo Autorganizzato Universitario (CAU), which announced it on social media[2]; Quotidiano Piemontese cites the Cua together with Ksa and Cambiare Rotta[1]; according to La Voce e il Tempo, the decision-making body is the Assemblea CPS (Culture, Politics and Society), which also includes Cambiare Rotta, Studenti Indipendenti and the CUA.[3]

The demands

The occupiers are protesting against rearmament and against the cost of living. They demand that funds earmarked for military spending — including commitments to NATO and the European ReArm Europe plan — go instead to education, research and healthcare; more funding for the university; a freeze on rent increases and evictions and limits on converting flats into short-term rentals; and public management of the beds in student halls built with PNRR funds.[3] They also object to the framework agreement between the University of Turin and Confindustria, fearing it will foster dual-use technologies, both civilian and military, and call for an end to agreements with the defence sector.[1][3]

Classes and the 30 October strike

For the morning of 27 October the occupiers announced a halt to classes and a new assembly at 6 p.m. to decide how to proceed.[1][2] According to La Voce e il Tempo, in-person classes at the campus are suspended until further notice[3]; Unione Monregalese reports the suspension running until 31 October.[4] The organisers plan to stay at least until Friday 30 October, the day of the national general strike, which they describe as the first event of the mobilisation.[1][3] The sources consulted report no statement from the university.[1][3]

The occupation comes after weeks of marches in the city against the cost of living, including the one on 24 October, and after occupations of Turin high schools against the school decree.
