The GAM – Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea is the modern art museum of the City of Turin, based at Via Magenta 31 [2]. Its origins go back to 1863, when Turin became the first Italian city to set up a public collection of modern art, within the Museo Civico; in 1895 the collections moved to a pavilion on Corso Siccardi, today Corso Galileo Ferraris, built for an earlier exhibition [1].

The pavilion was closed in 1942 and destroyed during the Second World War; the current building, designed by Carlo Bassi and Goffredo Boschetti, opened to the public in 1959. Having become unsafe in the early 1980s, it reopened in 1993 after a long restoration, and in 1999 a new layout placed the nineteenth century on the second floor and the twentieth on the first, opening a video library to the public [1]. The collections hold over 45,000 works including paintings, sculptures, installations and photographs, with works by Canova, Pellizza da Volpedo, Boccioni, Modigliani and the Arte Povera artists, and one of the main European collections of artists' films and videos [1].

Since 2003 the GAM has been part of the Fondazione Torino Musei, which looks after the City's art collections together with Palazzo Madama and the MAO [1] [3]. The gamtorino.it website presents exhibitions and events, visitor information and the online catalogue of the collections [2]. In the Torino Top 100 ranking for September 2026, the site ranks among the 50,000 most-visited sites in Italy according to Google's Chrome UX Report.
