In September 2026 the Fondazione Allegra Agnelli, together with the Fondazione Merz, places a work by the artist Mario Merz in front of the Istituto di Candiolo, the oncology centre on the outskirts of Turin.
The «Doppio Igloo di Porto» (1998): the work and the Fondazione Allegra Agnelli's fortieth anniversary
The work installed in front of the Istituto di Candiolo is the «Doppio Igloo di Porto» ("Double Igloo of Porto") by Mario Merz, from 1998: two sixteen-segment steel structures, one inside the other, with bundles of branches inside them and, on top, a neon deer with the Fibonacci number 10946. Created for the Fundação de Serralves in Porto, the work had previously been exhibited at, among other venues, Hangar Bicocca, Villa Borghese and the Triennale di Milano.
The installation, unveiled on Friday 18 September 2026 at 12 noon at viale della Ricerca 7 in Candiolo, celebrates the fortieth anniversary of the Fondazione Allegra Agnelli per la Ricerca sul Cancro (Allegra Agnelli Foundation for Cancer Research) and was made possible by the support of Gruppo Building and the collaboration of Intesa Sanpaolo and Gallerie d'Italia; the project, born from an idea by Simone Battisti, will be recounted in a catalogue published by Allemandi and presented at Artissima 2026.
