On 24 October 2026, during a demonstration in Turin, a white car crosses piazza Castello while the square is occupied by march participants. Sources from the Digos (the police division dealing with political and social matters) of the Turin police headquarters (Questura) confirm that the vehicle was in use by Digos personnel [1].

What happened

According to the account reported, the driver of the car found himself trapped between two lines of the crowd while on duty for public order, trying to work out which streets the march would take: the route of the demonstration had not been communicated to the authorities in advance [1]. The car reportedly entered piazza Castello from via Garibaldi, crossed the pedestrian square passing over the fountains at its centre, and then headed towards via Pietro Micca, where a group of officers in riot gear escorted it and let it proceed [1].

Several videos released after the events show the vehicle passing through the square at speed. A demonstrator told TorinoToday that the square was sealed off by police roadblocks on every exit street and under the arcades, with no way out, calling the car's passage a risk to those present [1]. It is not clear whether the car hit or injured any demonstrators while crossing the square [1].

The march and its consequences

The march subsequently headed towards the Giardini Reali (Royal Gardens) and the Aurora district. During the demonstration there were clashes that led to the arrest of two people, while another 25 were reported; the Turin public prosecutor's office is investigating to establish each person's responsibility [1].

The parliamentary question

Marco Grimaldi, a member of parliament for Alleanza Verdi-Sinistra, filed a parliamentary question addressed to the interior minister Matteo Piantedosi on 26 October 2026 at 2:52pm regarding the incident [1]. In the text, Grimaldi notes that the car broke into a square closed off by police, who not only failed to stop it but allegedly escorted it and let it proceed, and asks whether checks have been launched into the car, its driver and the reasons for its presence among the demonstrators [1].
