Matteo Piantedosi
Matteo Piantedosi is the Minister of the Interior of the Italian Republic. On 3 November 2026 he travelled to Turin to chair a meeting of the provincial Committee for order and public security, convened by prefect Donato Cafagna [1][2][3].
The visit of 3 November 2026
Piantedosi arrived in Turin accompanied by prefect Donato Cafagna and chief of police (Questore) Massimo Gambino. From 2.30pm he took part, at the Prefecture in piazza Castello, in the meeting with the heads of the police forces and city institutions [3]. For the occasion, the city centre was guarded by police forces, with traffic restrictions and diversions for public transport: the Gruppo Torinese Trasporti announced changes to the routes of lines crossing piazza Castello, via Accademia Albertina, via Po and via Rossini [1].
The protests in the city
For the occasion, a demonstration by university collectives and antagonist groups was called on social media, with a sit-in and banners critical of the minister [1][3]. The meeting at the Prefecture was also an occasion to discuss the march announced for the following weekend by the Italia in piazza movement, the fifth consecutive one in the city, relaunched by student collectives and coordination groups such as «Torino contro il riarmo», linked to the Askatasuna social centre [2][3]. The reasons for the mobilization, according to the organizers, concern the cost of living, cuts to healthcare and education, the climate crisis, precarious work and rearmament [2][3]. The protesters stated their intention to continue the protests every Saturday until the resignation of the government led by Giorgia Meloni [2][3].
The stop in Ciriè
At the end of the Committee for order and public security meeting, Piantedosi left Turin to travel to Ciriè, in the Turin area, where he took part in the inauguration of the new Ciriè Auditorium [1][2][3].
