Railway accident of 2 November 2026
On 2 November 2026, in the late afternoon, an unidentified person was struck and killed by a train on the Sfm1 line bound for Chieri, shortly before the train entered Torino Stura station, on corso Romania. Death was instantaneous [2]. According to the reconstruction by the railway police and the judicial authority that intervened on the scene, the victim had been walking along the tracks before being hit; the possibility of suicide has not been ruled out [1].
Emergency responders from the 118 Azienda Zero ambulance service, who confirmed the death, firefighters from several city stations, the railway police, Trenitalia technicians and staff from Rfi and Fs Security all intervened at the scene [2].
The accident caused the suspension of rail traffic in both directions between Settimo Torinese and Torino Stura station. Since high-speed trains also pass through Torino Stura, trains departing from Porta Susa station were also blocked, with cancellations and delays of up to four hours [1]. High-speed trains bound for Turin were held at Milan, regional trains on the Chivasso–Pinerolo line were limited to Torino Lingotto, those on the Rivarolo–Chieri line to Settimo Torinese or Trofarello, and those on the Ivrea–Turin line to Chivasso. Rfi announced that the situation would not be resolved before 8pm [1].
