The initiative for Brandizzo

On 24 September 2026, on the eve of the preliminary hearing of the trial for the Brandizzo railway disaster, set for 30 September at the Palazzo di Giustizia in Ivrea, Cgil Piemonte organized, together with Cgil Torino, Filt Cgil and Fillea Cgil, and under the patronage of the City of Brandizzo, the initiative «Il lavoro chiede giustizia» on the third anniversary of the disaster in which five workers were killed after being hit by a train during maintenance work.[1][2]

General secretary Giorgio Airaudo stated: «We have not forgotten and we will not adapt. We do not think the status quo should be the norm [...] We fear it could happen again and we will not stay silent». He praised the work carried out by the Ivrea court, reiterating that the trial cannot be the end point and that attention remains high on safety, on contracts and subcontracts, and on working conditions across the rail network.[1]

The round table was also attended by Massimo Cogliandro, general secretary of Fillea Cgil Piemonte, who called for free legal aid for the victims' relatives facing financial hardship, and Giuseppe Santomauro, general secretary of Filt Cgil Piemonte, who pointed out the shortcomings in rail maintenance.[1]
