Cgil Torino
Cgil Torino is the Turin territorial structure of the Confederazione generale italiana del lavoro, organized through the Provincial Camera del Lavoro of Turin and the category federations, including Flc Cgil, which represents school workers. The organization deals with issues related to work and education in the Turin area.
The Pinerolo banner affair
On 28 September 2026 police removed a banner reading «La scuola è aperta a tutti» («School is open to all»), a reference to Article 34 of the Constitution, which had been hung in front of the Istituto Comprensivo Pinerolo 3-4 by the school's Rsu as part of a mobilization in defense of public, open and inclusive schooling, in response to a decree-law approved by the Council of Ministers that sets a limit on the number of foreign students per class [1][2]. The removal was initially attributed to a possible action by anarchist movements [2].
Flc Cgil Torino and the Provincial Camera del Lavoro of Turin, together with school communities in the area, denounced the episode, expressing «dismay and firm condemnation» and calling the removal of a message quoting the Constitution a serious precedent [1]. The unions called for addressing the presence of students with migrant backgrounds not through «numerical quotas» but through more school hours, smaller classes, stable staffing, Italian as a second language instruction and cultural mediation, and invited school communities to put up new signs and banners [1][2].
Once the misunderstanding about the banner's origin was cleared up, it was returned and put back up. Flc Cgil Torino and the Provincial Camera del Lavoro of Turin noted «with satisfaction» that it had been released, thanking the police for reviewing the case, and renewed their call for a «democratic, open and anti-racist» public school [2].
