Third anniversary of the Brandizzo disaster and opening of the trial
On Thursday 24 September 2026, in piazza Carlo Tempia in Brandizzo, Cgil Piemonte, together with Cgil Torino, Filt Cgil and Fillea Cgil and with the patronage of the Municipality of Brandizzo, organises the "Il lavoro chiede giustizia" ("Work demands justice") initiative on the third anniversary of the disaster of 30 August 2023, in which a train struck and killed five workers carrying out maintenance on the railway line: Kevin Laganà (22), Michael Zanera (34), Giuseppe Sorvillo (43), Giuseppe Aversa (49) and Giuseppe Saverio Lombardo (52).12
Cgil Piemonte's general secretary Giorgio Airaudo states on the occasion: «We have not forgotten and we will not resign ourselves [...] We are afraid it could happen again and we will not stay silent».1
The initiative takes place on the eve of the opening of the trial over the disaster, whose preliminary hearing is set for 30 September 2026 at the Ivrea courthouse.12 The Ivrea public prosecutor's office is seeking the indictment of the companies Rfi, Sigifer and Clf and of 19 other people, including Rfi's then chief executive — later chief executive of Trenitalia — Gianpiero Strisciuglio, and his predecessor as head of Rfi, Vera Fiorani, as well as the two survivors of the accident, Antonio Massa and Andrea Girardin Gibin.3
