ASL CN1
ASL CN1 is the Local Health Authority that provides public health services across a large area of the Province of Cuneo, including, among others, the territories of Valle Po, Valle Bronda and Valle Infernotto. Among the agency's facilities are the Community Houses of Saluzzo, located at the hospital complex on via Spielberg 58, and of Verzuolo, on piazza Willy Burgo 4 [1][2].
The shortage of family doctors in 2026
Between 25 and 30 October 2026, two general practitioners working in the ASL CN1 area ceased their activity: the first in Bagnolo Piemonte on 25 October, the second in Sanfront and Rifreddo on 30 October. This came on top of an already existing shortage of family doctors in the area [1][2].
To address the situation, ASL CN1 has set up a temporary service for users left without a primary care doctor, to be used only for non-deferrable needs. Residents of Bagnolo Piemonte and Barge are directed to the Community House of Saluzzo; those of Crissolo, Envie, Gambasca, Martiniana Po, Oncino, Ostana, Paesana, Revello, Rifreddo and Sanfront to the Community House of Verzuolo. Access to the two facilities is available Monday to Friday, excluding the days before and on public holidays, from 8 am to 8 pm, on presentation of medical records. ASL CN1 states that the District is working to find a permanent solution and announces further communications [2].
The mayors' appeal
On 4 November 2026 fourteen mayors of the municipalities of Valle Po, Bronda and Infernotto sign a joint appeal addressed to ASL CN1, in response to the statement in which the agency had announced the temporary activation of the Community Houses. The mayors thank the agency for the measure but consider it insufficient and unsustainable for people living in the mountains, because of the long distances to travel on narrow and winding roads, sometimes made dangerous by snow and ice in winter, and the scarcity of public transport [1].
In the document the mayors ask ASL CN1 to appoint, within a set timeframe, substitutes or temporary assignments for the vacant positions, to bring care back closer to residents through periodic clinics in the towns of the middle and upper valley, rotating doctors, telemedicine and family and community nurses, and to commit, together with the Piedmont Region, to making the medical profession more attractive in disadvantaged areas. The municipalities also state their willingness to provide premises for clinics and logistical support [1].
