Valperga
Valperga is a municipality in the Canavese, in the Metropolitan City of Turin. The municipal area is crossed by the Rivarolo Canavese–Pont Canavese railway line, on which, in October 2026, electrification works on the line were under way [1][2]. The municipality's mayor is Walter Sandretto [1].
The railway and the electrification site
In October 2026 the Rivarolo–Pont line was suspended to ordinary traffic to allow electrification works on the line. Along the tracks, technical trains of the FS Group were operating, made up of a diesel locomotive and a wagon or a trolley used to carry soil [1][2].
Accident at the via Peradotto level crossing
On the morning of 20 October 2026, a Citroën C3 car collided with a works train at the via Peradotto level crossing. The car was driven by a man, who was unhurt, with a woman on board, who suffered minor injuries [1][2]. The train, heading north and made up of a railcar and a trolley carrying soil according to TorinoToday, or of a diesel locomotive and a wagon according to ANSA, was travelling at reduced speed at the time of impact, as was the car [1][2].
The injured woman was taken to hospital in Cuorgnè by 118 Azienda Zero staff, not in a serious condition [1][2]. Firefighters from the Cuorgnè and Ivrea detachments responded to the scene to secure the vehicles, along with carabinieri from the Ivrea company, FS Group staff and mayor Walter Sandretto [1]. The Cuorgnè carabinieri were tasked with establishing the circumstances of the accident [2]. The road was closed to traffic to allow rescue operations and the removal of the vehicles [1].
