Trial for the Collegno murder

On 2 November 2026 the trial of Michele Nicastri, a fifty-year-old engineer accused of fatally stabbing Marco Veronese, the former partner of his girlfriend, on 23 October 2025 in Collegno, in the Turin area, opened before the Court of Assizes of Turin. Around eighty witnesses have been called to testify during the proceedings [1][2].

The crime

According to investigators' reconstruction, on the evening of 23 October 2025 Nicastri allegedly waited for Veronese on via Sabotino, in Collegno, before attacking him from behind with multiple stab wounds as he was returning home. He is then said to have fled, evading capture for twelve days before being arrested by police. The murder weapon was never found [2]. According to the prosecution, the crime had been preceded by nine reconnaissance visits and planned in advance [1].

The defendant and the investigation

Nicastri, an engineer and triathlon enthusiast, is charged with premeditated murder aggravated by trivial motives. He has confessed and, while held in custody, has paid the victim's children around 500,000 euros in compensation. In the weeks before the trial opened, a request by him for house arrest had been rejected [1][2].

The opening of the trial

The trial is being held under ordinary proceedings before the Court of Assizes of Turin. The court has reserved its decision on the defence's request to have the defendant undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Nicastri was present in court alongside his defence lawyers, Chiara Gatto and Luca Calabrò. The victim's relatives, who have joined the proceedings as civil parties represented by lawyers Ruben Segre and Federico Morbidelli, also attended the hearing. The prosecution is led by public prosecutor Mario Bendoni [1][2].
