Tenth Edition of the World Press Photo Exhibition in Turin (2026)
From 18 September to 13 December 2026, the Rotonda del Talucchi hypogeum at the Accademia Albertina of Fine Arts in Turin hosts, for the tenth consecutive year, the World Press Photo Exhibition, the touring show dedicated to photojournalism and documentary photography [1][2]. On display are 144 selected images, chosen from more than 57,000 photographs submitted by 3,747 photographers from 141 countries, for the 69th edition of the contest organized by the World Press Photo Foundation of Amsterdam [1][2]. In Turin the exhibition is curated by Cime, the Foundation's Brand Ambassador for Italy, under the patronage of the City of Turin and the Metropolitan City [1].
Themes of the exhibition
The award-winning reportages document wars and humanitarian crises, climate change, civil rights protests and stories of everyday life, from Ukraine to Palestine, from the United States to Nepal, from Pakistan to Africa, alongside more intimate stories dealing with illness, grief, isolation and survival [1][2]. The international jury for the 2026 edition, chaired by Kira Pollack, worked across six regional macro-areas — introduced in 2021 — with 74% of the winners (31 out of 42) coming from the same contexts documented in their photographs, and growth in the number of entrants from South America (+11%) and Asia-Pacific (+14%); women and non-binary photographers accounted for 22% of participants [2].
The winners
The title of World Press Photo of the Year 2026 went to American photographer Carol Guzy for her image «Separated by Ice», taken for ZUMA Press and published in the Miami Herald, which documents the arrest of an Ecuadorian father by immigration agents at a federal courthouse in New York [2]. Among the finalists were Palestinian photographer Saber Nuraldin (EPA Images), for a reportage on food aid convoys at the Gaza crossing, and American photographer Victor J. Blue (The New York Times Magazine), for his coverage of the war crimes conviction secured by the Maya Achi women of Guatemala [2]. The only Italian among the award winners is photographer Chantal Pinzi, with the project «Farīsāt: Gunpowder's Daughters», dedicated to Moroccan women who practice a historically male equestrian tradition [1][2].
Program of talks
Alongside the exhibition, a series of meetings and conferences dedicated to photography and major current events is planned: the first, scheduled for Friday 25 September, features photographer Pablo E. Piovano, author of the project «The Human Cost of Agrotoxins» [1][3].
The World Press Photo Foundation
Founded in 1955 in Amsterdam by a collective of Dutch photojournalists, the World Press Photo Foundation promotes independent photojournalism; its annual touring exhibition reaches more than 60 cities across five continents, with an estimated audience of over three million visitors [2].
