On 3 November 2026 more than sixty students from university collectives occupied via Verdi and via Po with a sit-in, in front of the two entrances of the Rector's Office of the University of Turin, coinciding with the session of the Academic Senate. The protesters displayed a banner reading «Prandi chiude agli studenti ma apre alla Guerra. Dimissioni subito» («Prandi closes the door to students but opens it to war. Resign now»), demanding the resignation of rector Cristina Prandi [1][2].

The collectives involved and their demands

Several groups took part in the sit-in, including Cambiare Rotta, Assemblea Cps and Cua [1]. The students asked for a channel of dialogue and a public meeting with the rector, accused of refusing to consider their grievances and of paying no attention to the occupation of the Campus Luigi Einaudi, under way since 26 October 2026 [1][2]. The protesters' targets include the university's economic and strategic choices, in particular the Academic Senate discussions on agreements with private companies seen as problematic, including industrial and arms companies, proposed to cover a budget deficit rather than promote free and accessible research [1][2].

Context and developments

The mobilization follows on from the protest launched on 26 October 2026 with the occupation of the Campus Luigi Einaudi [1]. The occupiers have begun coordination assemblies with students from Palazzo Nuovo and other sites in Turin, aiming to extend the protest to other city faculties and to organize a demonstration for Saturday 7 November 2026 [1][2].

Coincidence with minister Piantedosi's visit

On the same day Turin's city centre was placed under heavy security for the institutional visit of interior minister Matteo Piantedosi, with traffic diverted on via Pietro Micca near via XX Settembre [1]. A protest was planned for 2pm in piazza Castello by collectives and activists, with the slogan «Piantedosi in città, Torino non ti vuole» («Piantedosi in town, Turin doesn't want you») [1][2].
