The Pavese Prize
The Pavese Prize is organised by the Cesare Pavese Foundation and the Municipality of Santo Stefano Belbo, with support from the Piedmont Region, Fondazione CRC and Fondazione CRT [1]. The prize jury is chaired by Alberto Sinigaglia and includes Gian Arturo Ferrari, Giulia Boringhieri, Chiara Fenoglio, Claudio Marazzini, Carlo Ossola and Pierluigi Vaccaneo [1].
The 2026 edition
For the 43rd edition, announced in the days before 4 November 2026, the Pavese Prize for essay writing is awarded to philosopher Massimo Cacciari, professor emeritus at the San Raffaele University in Milan and a national member of the Accademia dei Lincei, with a citation linking his thought to Pavese's Dialoghi con Leucò (Dialogues with Leucò) [1]. The publishing prize goes to Sandro Ferri and Sandra Ozzola, founders of Edizioni E/O in 1979 and, in 2005, of Europa Editions in New York and London [1]. The poetry prize is awarded to director Giovanna Gagliardo, a former contributor to «Il Giorno», «Il Messaggero», «La Repubblica» and «L'Espresso», and a screenwriter and assistant director to Hungarian filmmaker Miklós Jancsó [1]. The award ceremony is scheduled for Saturday 14 November 2026 at 5pm in the Church of SS.
