Postalcoop-Cargobroker investigation
News of
The Postalcoop-Cargobroker investigation is a criminal proceeding coordinated by the Turin public prosecutor's office (Procura) into an alleged fraudulent scheme in the logistics sector, run through the Postalcoop and Cargobroker groups, which according to the prosecution involved around two thousand workers moved from one company to another. On 26 October 2026 the suspects were served notice of the conclusion of the preliminary investigation.
Origin: Operation Epicentro
The investigation originates from the operation named "Epicentro", carried out by the Guardia di Finanza and coordinated by the Turin public prosecutor's office, which more than a year before the investigation's conclusion had led to the preventive seizure of 26.5 million euros for tax offences and irregular supply of labour, concerning at least ten companies [1].
The alleged mechanism
According to the prosecution's case, the scheme relied on shell companies created with the sole purpose of accumulating tax debts and then disappearing, allowing the illicit profits to be reinvested in new sectors. The Postalcoop and Cargobroker groups allegedly acted as fronts to circumvent tax rules and national collective labour agreements, making it possible to offer services at reduced prices to logistics clients such as Amazon and GLS [1].
The suspects and the conclusion of the investigation
At the start of the investigation there were 38 suspects; with the notice of the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, the number dropped to 21. Among the main names are Daniele Goglio, considered by investigators to be the de facto administrator of the Postalcoop group, and Giuseppe Smeriglio, chairman of the board of Cargobroker [1]. Together with the notice, the previously ordered preventive seizure of 26.5 million euros was confirmed [1].
