PiemonteIS
PiemonteIS is a collective trademark promoted by the Piedmont Region for agricultural activities and food processing carried out in the regional territory. It was presented in September 2026, in the area dedicated to regional excellence at Terra Madre Salone del Gusto in Turin.
The name plays on a double meaning: in Piedmontese, «piemonteis» means something belonging to the region, while in English the words «Piemonte is» introduce a phrase aimed at foreign markets. The trademark may appear on the labels of eligible products, subject to verification of compliance with an access regulation, and sits alongside existing designations of origin, geographical indications and organic certifications, without replacing them.
To obtain the right to use the trademark, a company must be based in Piedmont, where the production, processing or a substantial stage of the food's preparation must take place. Four assessment pathways are provided, differentiated according to the guarantees a product already holds: for wines and foods protected by designations, the relevant specifications are taken into account, while other cases include organic production systems and national or European quality schemes, with checks already carried out by the competent bodies taken into consideration to avoid duplication. In presenting the initiative, it was noted that Piedmont accounts for around 25% of Italy's total designation-protected products.
