Piedmont Region allocation against gender-based violence (October 2026)
On 5 October 2026 the Piedmont Region announced the allocation of over 2 million euros to combat gender-based violence across the region, with two new measures addressing employment, economic independence, housing and prevention. For the first time, a specific line of intervention has been added for minors who are victims of witnessed violence, that is, children and young people who have experienced domestic violence within their own family. [1][2]
The total resources amount to 2,007,500 euros, of which 1,788,500 euros fall within the actions of the National Strategic Plan on male violence against women, with a further 219,000 euros earmarked for strengthening guidance, training and economic independence for women who are victims of violence. [2]
Employment and economic independence
450,000 euros are earmarked for job placement and reintegration, funding up to 15 projects of 30,000 euros each aimed at women who are victims of violence, whether alone or with children. The programmes can include guidance, training, internships, job placement support, support for self-employment through microcredit, and tools to remove concrete obstacles to employment, such as obtaining a driving licence. [1][2]
A further 219,000 euros are specifically earmarked for strengthening economic independence, funding up to five territorial networks led by anti-violence centres, with a maximum contribution of 43,800 euros per project. The plan includes a facilitator role to connect anti-violence centres, employment centres, accredited job and training providers, and services for reconciling family life and work. [2]
Housing
A further 450,000 euros are earmarked for the housing independence of women who are victims of violence, whether alone or with children. The measure consolidates the collaboration between the network of 23 Piedmont anti-violence centres and the eight social rental agencies present in the provincial capitals. The non-repayable grant can cover up to a maximum of eight months' rent and, within the same limit, any deposit requested by the landlord. [1][2]
Minors and prevention
284,500 euros are allocated for children and young people who have experienced violence within their own family, to fund up to five projects dedicated to hubs against witnessed violence. The regional strategy also provides for 340,000 euros for information, training and awareness-raising projects in schools on the themes of gender-based violence, stereotypes and building relationships based on respect. [1][2]
Regional councillor for Equal Opportunities Marina Chiarelli stated that «the numbers tell us how much economic independence is an integral part of a woman's path to freedom», noting that 54% of the women being assisted have no economic independence of their own. [1]
