Ottobre Rosa (Pink October) in Piedmont (2026)
Ottobre Rosa is the international month dedicated to breast-cancer prevention, born in the United States in 1985 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and progressively spread worldwide. In Italy, the main initiatives include the Pink Ribbon campaign of Lilt (the Italian League for the Fight against Cancer), which in 2026 chose the slogan «Il primo passo» ("The first step"), and the activities of Komen Italia.[1][2]
Breast cancer in Italy
According to the report «I numeri del cancro in Italia 2025» ("Cancer figures in Italy 2025"), produced by Aiom and Airtum, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed tumour among the Italian population, with about 55,900 new cases estimated in 2025. Five-year survival after diagnosis stands at 86%, and more than 925,000 women in Italy are living after a breast-cancer diagnosis. The overall probability of recovery is 73%, but varies sharply depending on the stage at diagnosis: 99% at stage one, 81% at stage two, 36% at stages three and four.[2]
