Margherita of Savoy

Margherita of Savoy, queen of Italy and later queen mother, is a figure of the House of Savoy linked to the Turin area through the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, a residence she frequented in the early twentieth century. At that time the royal family, with her son and the young princes, lived instead at the Castello di Racconigi, near Turin.[1]

The link with Stupinigi and Racconigi

According to the sources, the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi is linked to the presence of the queen mother, while the Castello di Racconigi was the residence of the royal family and the young princes. This twofold link with the two Savoy residences, a few kilometres from Turin, is the starting point for reconstructing the private dimension of the Savoy court in the early twentieth century.[1]

The series «La Regina Margherita e i suoi affetti»

At Stupinigi, Margherita of Savoy is the subject of a series of themed visits titled «La Regina Margherita e i suoi affetti» ("Queen Margherita and her loved ones"), designed to tell the story of the queen mother's daily life, affections and family relationships beyond her public and institutional role, without taking the form of a complete biography.[1]

The first event of the series, in April 2026, was dedicated to the daily life of Margherita of Savoy, between modern comforts and court life.[1]

The itinerary «Margherita e i suoi nipoti»

On Sunday 4 October 2026, for Grandparents' Day, the second event of the series was held in the rooms of the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, with the itinerary Margherita e i suoi nipoti ("Margherita and her grandchildren"), at 3:45 pm. Through photographs, memories and traces of everyday life, the itinerary reconstructed the relationship between Margherita of Savoy and the young princes, reading the spaces of the residence not only as settings of court life but as places of family relationships, education and sharing between Stupinigi and Racconigi.[1]
