Ivrea Prison
On 21 September 2026 a 42-year-old Italian inmate was found dead, hanged with a makeshift noose, in the cell of Ivrea Prison (TO) that he shared with another inmate.1 According to the general secretary of the Osapp union, Leo Beneduci, the prison police staff of the institution is 30% below the required level.1
The regional Ombudsman for detainees, Monica Formaiano, called for an immediate response on the overall situation of Piedmont's penitentiary institutions, urging investment in prison healthcare services, mental health and psychological support for inmates.2
