Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo

The Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo is a contemporary art foundation established in Turin in 1995 to present the most advanced trends in international art; its main venue is the Centro per l'arte contemporanea at Via Modane 16, in the San Paolo district.[1][3] Since 27 June 2026 it has been accredited to the National Museum System, with recognition as a museum by the Regione Piemonte.[9]

The foundation

The deed of establishment was signed in Turin on 6 April 1995 by Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo with her husband Agostino and her parents; among the first exhibitions was «Campo», in 1995.[2] The Sandretto Re Rebaudengo collection, begun in 1992, has worked closely with the Foundation since 1995.[8]

The venues

The first exhibition venue was Palazzo Re Rebaudengo in Guarene d'Alba, an eighteenth-century building opened in 1997 and expanded in 2006; on the hill of San Licerio, in Guarene, there is also a free-entry art park.[4][5] The Turin center, inaugurated in 2002 — in September according to the Foundation, in summer according to ANSA —, is the work of Claudio Silvestrin, with essential, horizontal spaces modeled on the German Kunsthallen, facing a small public garden.[3][2] It stands on the site of the former Fergat plant, the factory making components for cars and military vehicles that operated there from 1930, was bombed in 1942-1944, abandoned in 1977 and redeveloped by the City in 1994-1996.[10] The Foundation later opened a venue in Madrid in 2017 and in 2018 acquired the island of San Giacomo in the Venice lagoon.[6][7]

The thirtieth anniversary

On 8 April 2025 the Foundation celebrated its thirtieth anniversary with a public party and the opening of exhibitions by Jem Perucchini, Marwa Arsanios and Teresa Solar Abboud.[11] From 28 October 2025 to 8 March 2026 the exhibition «News from the Near Future», featuring more than a hundred works from the collection, was held at the Foundation and at the Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile.[8]
