Fatal Accident at the McDermid Site in Trecate

On 4 November 2026 a 57-year-old worker suffered a workplace accident in the industrial area of the San Martino hamlet, in Trecate, in the province of Novara, on via Vigevano. The man died in hospital in Novara after being struck by the metal arm of a crane at a McDermid construction site. [1][2][3][4]
What happened
The accident occurred shortly before 2pm, when the crane's metal arm fell on the worker, causing him extremely serious multiple traumas. The man was an employee of a company external to McDermid. [3][4]
The rescue
Paramedics from the 118 emergency service responded to the scene with an ambulance, along with firefighters and Carabinieri. Rescuers managed to resuscitate the worker on site before transporting him to Novara hospital under a red-code emergency. [1][2][4]
His condition, which appeared extremely serious from the first moments, left no hope: the man died in hospital due to the severity of his injuries. [3]
The investigation
The exact dynamics of the accident, and in particular the causes of the crane arm's failure, remain to be clarified. Carabinieri and labour inspectors have opened an investigation at the site to verify compliance with safety procedures and identify any responsibility. [4]
