Bergesio's speech in the Senate

Speaking in the Senate on the Ex Ilva Decree, Lega senator and deputy chair of the Productive Activities Committee Giorgio Maria Bergesio asks for the financial guarantees provided by the decree for waste and landfill management to be extended to all companies under extraordinary administration, stressing that the steel crisis does not concern only Taranto but also the Piedmontese plants of Novi Ligure and Racconigi, which he describes as «not peripheral».[1]

Support from Fondazione Industriali

Fondazione Industriali, active in the Cuneo area, declares itself available to workers at the Racconigi plant through its «Supporto nelle crisi aziendali» ("Support in company crises") project, already used during the Diageo and Embo crises, to help guide them towards new employment in cooperation with institutions and social partners; its chair, Giuliana Cirio, speaks of «a shared responsibility».[2]

Extension of layoffs to Novi Ligure and Racconigi (October 2026)

In mid-October 2026 wage-guarantee layoffs (cassa integrazione) are extended to the Piedmontese plants of Acciaierie d'Italia, formerly Ilva: the procedure would affect 515 of 542 workers in Novi Ligure and, counting the Racconigi site too, 585 of a total of 614 employees, leaving only 29 workers unaffected at the two plants. The situation is linked to uncertainty over the future of the Taranto plant, after the Milan Court of Appeal ruling ordering the hot area to stop by 30 October, while the Court of Cassation is yet to rule on the matter. Among the unions' concerns is the risk that the company will not be able to advance the layoff payments, forcing workers to wait for direct payments from Inps, estimated to take three or four months: the first payment might not arrive until January or February 2027. The mayor of Racconigi, Valerio Oderda, asks the Government to urgently guarantee the social safety nets and to accompany them with concrete choices for the plant's productive future, including a possible separate sale of the plant. A meeting between unions and the commissioners of Acciaierie d'Italia is planned at the Prefecture in Alessandria, along with a meeting at the Piedmont Region with President Alberto Cirio and the regional minister for Labour, Maurizio Marrone.
