Awarding of the 2028 Conference League Final to Juventus Stadium
On 15 September 2026 the Uefa Executive Committee, meeting in Thessaloniki, officially awarded the 2028 Conference League final to the Juventus Stadium in Turin. The decision rewarded the bid submitted in June of the same year by the Italian Football Federation, drawn up with the collaboration of Juventus, the City of Turin, the Piedmont Region and, for matters relating to hotel capacity, Federalberghi Torino [1][2]. This marks the first time that the final of the third-tier European club football competition will be held in Italy [1].
The bid and the decision
The dossier submitted by the FIGC involved, besides the Juventus club, the local institutions: the City of Turin and the Piedmont Region, together with Federalberghi Torino for managing the tourist reception linked to the event [2]. The award was announced at the end of the Uefa executive committee meeting held in Thessaloniki, Greece [1][2]. The 2028 Conference League final adds to two other major football events that Italy will host in the coming years: the final phase of the 2029 Women's Under-19 European Championship and Euro 2032, the latter co-hosted with Turkey [2].
The stadium's international track record
Juventus Stadium has already hosted international events organised by Uefa in the past: the 2014 Europa League final between Sevilla and Benfica, two matches of the 2021 Nations League Finals (Belgium-France and the third-place final between Italy and Belgium) and the 2022 Uefa Women's Champions League final between Lyon and Barcelona [1][2]. The venue is also among the Italian facilities already identified as ready to host Euro 2032 matches [1].
Reactions
FIGC president Giovanni Malagò described the award as «excellent news» confirming «Uefa's appreciation and trust in Italy», stressing that «Turin has all it takes to be a great European capital of sport» [1][2]. The Juventus club commented that the choice «confirms the excellence, safety and cutting-edge standards of the venue on the international football scene» [1]. The mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, stated that the city «has won a new major sporting event, confirming its ability to successfully host events of international standing, also thanks to modern and functional sports facilities», thanking the FIGC and president Malagò for believing in Turin's bid [1][2]. The City of Turin's councillor for Sport, Domenico Carretta, echoed this view, saying that «Turin is ready to turn this event too into an unforgettable celebration» [2].
