Arpa Piemonte is Piedmont's regional agency for environmental protection. After the 1993 referendum that removed environmental monitoring duties from health authorities, it was established by regional law no. 60 of 13 April 1995; regional law 28 of 20 November 2002 also gave it responsibility for forecasting and preventing natural hazards, and regional law 18 of 26 September 2016 reformed its structure.1 It is part of the national system for environmental protection and is based in Turin, at via Pio VII 9.2

The agency is organised into four territorial departments: Piemonte Nord Ovest, based in Turin; Piemonte Sud Est, between Alessandria and Asti; Piemonte Sud Ovest, in Cuneo; and Piemonte Nord Est, based in Vercelli with offices in Biella, Novara and Omegna.3 For Turin and its metropolitan area, Arpa is the source of the air-quality data that drives the anti-smog protocol in force from 15 September, as well as of weather forecasts and hydrogeological-risk monitoring.2

The site arpa.piemonte.it is consulted mainly for the regional weather and hydrological alert bulletin, weather forecasts, air- and bathing-water quality data, requests for weather, hydrological and snow data, and the environmental geoportal; it also publishes the state-of-the-environment report and the agency's news.2 In the Torino Top 100 ranking for September 2026, the site ranks among the 5,000 most-visited sites in Italy according to Google's Chrome UX Report.
