Armed Forces and National Unity Day 2026 in Beinette and Calosso
Date of the event:
On 8 November 2026 the Piedmontese municipalities of Beinette, in the Province of Cuneo, and Calosso, in the Province of Asti, celebrated the Armed Forces and National Unity Day, a commemoration of Italy's victory in the First World War in 1918. In both municipalities the ceremonies took place in the rain.[1][2]
The ceremony in Beinette
In Beinette the celebration was organised by the local Alpini group (the association of Alpine troops veterans), who had already decorated the festival area with flags on Saturday 31 October. The ceremony was attended by the Marshal in command of the Peveragno barracks, deputy mayor Bruno Bertone and parish priest don Luciano Bruno, who gave the blessing. The names of the village's fallen in the two world wars were read out, and pupils from Beinette's primary and middle schools offered reflections on peace and justice.[1] Because of the rain, the final part of the ceremony, after the moment at the war memorial, was held indoors at the Adriano Olivetti multipurpose centre.[1]
The ceremony in Calosso
In Calosso the day, organised by the municipality, opened at 10am with Mass at the Parish of San Martino. At 11am a procession moved towards the war memorial, where the flag-raising and the laying of the wreath by the Calosso Alpini group took place. After an address by mayor Angelo Grasso, pupils from the village's schools spoke with stories and accounts. The ceremony ended with a get-together offered by the Pro Loco (local tourist association). The municipality thanked the Alpini group, the Pro Loco and the schools for their cooperation.[2]
