Alpini

The Alpini, the Italian Army's mountain troops, have a direct link with Turin through the Taurinense Alpine Brigade, based in the city at the "Monte Grappa" barracks.

On 5 October 2026, at the "Monte Grappa" barracks in Turin and before the War Flag of the 2nd Alpini Regiment, the change of command of the Brigade took place: Brigadier General Giuseppe Sgueglia took over from Brigadier General David Colussi, in the presence of the commander of the Army's Alpine Troops, Major General Alberto Vezzoli, and civil and military authorities of the City, the Province and the Region.1

During Colussi's command, the Taurinense and its units faced an intense operational and training cycle, with a main commitment in Lebanon as part of the Unifil mission, alongside national and international exercises in northern Europe; the units also continued their commitment to Operation "Strade Sicure" in the Piemonte-Liguria and Val Susa-Valle d'Aosta groupings, with a contribution to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.1

General Sgueglia, coming from the Army General Staff, thus returns to the Taurinense, where he has served in all of the brigade's alpine infantry regiments: the 3rd Alpini of Pinerolo and the 9th Alpini of L'Aquila, and of which he commanded the "Saluzzo" battalion between 2016 and 2018 and the 2nd Alpini Regiment between 2020 and 2022.1
