Gathering of the 1st Alpini Grouping in Pinerolo
The Gathering of the 1st Alpini Grouping is an event organized by the Associazione Nazionale Alpini (Ana) held in Pinerolo, in the Province of Turin, from 18 to 20 September 2026. It is the 28th edition of the gathering, bringing together the sections of the Piedmont, Liguria, Valle d'Aosta and France grouping, and drew over 15,000 Alpini to the city, turning Pinerolo for three days into what the press described as a capital of the Alpini.[1][2]
The event
The celebrations opened on Friday 18 September with the lowering of the Italian flag from the tower of the town hall, a symbolic ceremony marking the official opening of the gathering.[2][3]
On Saturday 19 September the city came alive with the Notte Verde degli Alpini (Alpini Green Night), featuring music and events in the city centre, culminating in a drone show that lit up the sky, recounting the history and symbols of the Alpini world. The same day also saw the regular city market take place, which went ahead despite the traffic changes.[1][3]
The concluding moment was the parade on Sunday 20 September, which saw thousands of Alpini march through the streets of Pinerolo's centre amid flags, banners, pennants and uniforms, applauded by the public along the route. The participating sections represented Piedmont, Liguria, Valle d'Aosta and France.[1]
Traffic and organization
To accommodate participants, the City of Pinerolo introduced a series of traffic changes, concentrated mainly on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September. The measures included no-parking zones with forced towing in several areas of the city centre, including Piazza Volontari della Libertà, Via Massimo Piatti, Via Cesare Battisti, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Via del Duomo and Piazza San Donato, as well as traffic restrictions on Corso Torino, Piazza Luigi Barbieri, Via Saluzzo and Via Clemente Lequio di Assaba, in effect until the afternoon of Sunday 20 September.[2][3]
The bond with the city
The Pinerolo city administration granted honorary citizenship to the Associazione Nazionale Alpini, confirming the bond between the city and the Alpini world highlighted on the occasion of the gathering. For three days the event involved shops, associations, volunteers and residents in welcoming the thousands of participants who came from all over Piedmont, Liguria, Valle d'Aosta and France.[1]
