Announcement of Car Tax Exemption in Piedmont for 2027

On 17 September 2026 the Piedmont Region announced the decision to extend, starting from 2027, the exemption from payment of the car tax (bollo auto). The measure will affect more than 1.6 million people in Piedmont, corresponding to one in every two motorists in the region.[1][2]

The announcement

According to the Piedmont Region, the exemption will apply to vehicles with power output below 80 kW. The news was reported simultaneously by both Quotidiano Piemontese and La Stampa, which cited the same figures provided by the regional administration.[1][2]

Vehicles affected

The criterion identified for the exemption is engine power, set at a threshold of 80 kW: owners of cars with power output below this value will be among the beneficiaries of the measure starting in 2027. The total pool estimated by the Piedmont Region exceeds 1.6 million motorists, equal to about half of the regional total.[1][2]
