Winter closure of the Colle della Lombarda and Colle dell'Agnello passes (2026)

On 2 November 2026, from noon, the Province of Cuneo ordered the seasonal closure to traffic of the two international mountain passes it manages in the Alps: the Colle della Lombarda and the Colle dell'Agnello. With this measure, neither pass remains open until the following spring, depending on weather conditions and the snow accumulation recorded during the winter ^[1][2].

Colle della Lombarda

The measure concerns provincial road 255, in the stretch from kilometre marker 3.500 (the Aie locality) up to the top of the pass, at an altitude of around 2,350 metres. The pass connects the Stura valley, in the province of Cuneo, with the French Tinée valley: on the Italian side the road climbs from Vinadio past the sanctuary of Sant'Anna, while beyond the border it descends towards the Isola 2000 ski resort and then towards the municipality of Isola ^[1][2].

Colle dell'Agnello

Also from noon on 2 November 2026, the seasonal closure took effect for provincial road 251 over the Colle dell'Agnello, in the upper Varaita valley, in the stretch between the old Dogana (customs post), at kilometre 4.700, and the pass at the state border, at kilometre 14.010. According to IdeaWebTv the closure took place in agreement with the authorities of the Département des Hautes-Alpes, following the cross-border management protocol between the two sides ^[2].

Reopening

Both roads will remain closed until safe, passable conditions are restored, with reopening expected the following spring, depending on winter weather conditions and snow accumulation ^[1][2].
