Valle Stura
Valle Stura is a valley of the Maritime Alps, in the Province of Cuneo. Its territory reaches the state border with France, reached via Colle della Lombarda, an international pass at about 2,350 metres above sea level. [1][2]
Geography and connections
On the Italian side, the road leading to the pass climbs from Vinadio, passing near the Sant'Anna sanctuary. [1][2] Beyond the border, the pass links Valle Stura with the French Vallée de la Tinée: the road descends towards the Isola 2000 ski resort and then towards the municipality of Isola. The road connection corresponds to provincial road SP255, managed by the Province of Cuneo. [1][2]
Seasonal closure of Colle della Lombarda
Colle della Lombarda is subject to a winter closure of provincial road SP255, decided by the Province of Cuneo for the section from kilometre 3.500, in the locality of Aie, to the top of the pass. [1][2] On 2 November 2026, from noon, the pass was closed to traffic for the winter season, together with Colle dell'Agnello, in upper Valle Varaita, another international pass managed by the same Province. [1][2] With this measure, both international passes administered by the Province of Cuneo became impassable. [1][2] According to reports, the closure of provincial road SP251 over Colle dell'Agnello took effect in agreement with the authorities of the Département des Hautes-Alpes, following a cross-border management protocol. [2] The roads will remain closed until safe and passable conditions are restored, with reopening expected the following spring, depending on winter weather conditions and snow accumulation. [1][2]
