Winter closure of Colle della Lombarda and Colle dell'Agnello (2026)

On 2 November 2026 the Province of Cuneo closed to traffic, for the winter season, the international passes of Colle della Lombarda and Colle dell'Agnello, which connect Valle Stura and Valle Varaita to France.
On 2 November 2026, from noon, the Province of Cuneo ordered the seasonal closure to traffic of the two international passes it manages in the Alps: Colle della Lombarda and Colle dell'Agnello. With this measure, neither pass remains open until the following spring, depending on weather conditions and snow accumulation recorded during the winter. [1][2]
Colle della Lombarda
The measure concerns provincial road SP255, in the section from kilometre 3.500 (the locality of Aie) to the top of the pass, at about 2,350 metres above sea level. The pass links Valle Stura, in the Province of Cuneo, with the French Vallée de la Tinée: on the Italian side the road climbs from Vinadio, passing near the Sant'Anna sanctuary, while beyond the border it descends towards the Isola 2000 ski resort and then towards the municipality of Isola. Colle dell'Agnello
Also from noon on 2 November 2026, the seasonal closure of provincial road SP251 over Colle dell'Agnello, in upper Valle Varaita, came into effect, in the section between the old customs post (Dogana), at kilometre 4.700, and the border crossing, at kilometre 14.010. According to IdeaWebTv, the closure was carried out in agreement with the authorities of the Département des Hautes-Alpes, following the protocol for cross-border management between the two sides. Reopening
Both roads will remain closed until safe and passable conditions are restored, with reopening expected the following spring, subject to winter weather conditions and snow accumulation. [1][2]
