Traversella

Traversella is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Turin, located in upper Valchiusella. Its territory includes rugged mountain areas, which have been the scene of alpine rescue operations.

The discovery of human remains in 2026

On 5 October 2026, the Guardia di Finanza's alpine rescue unit recovered human remains and some items of clothing in a rugged area of Traversella's territory, in upper Valchiusella. The recovery operations, carried out in the morning, required the use of a helicopter [1][2].

The remains were transferred to the forensic medicine department and made available to the Ivrea public prosecutor's office, which opened the investigations needed to establish the identification [1][2].

The missing climber hypothesis

Among the hypotheses being examined is that the remains may belong to Jürg Müller, a 64-year-old Swiss climber who went missing in the same area on 23 June 2026. At the time of the discovery, however, there was no confirmation of the person's identity [1][2].
