Discovery of Human Remains in Traversella on 5 October 2026
On 5 October 2026 the mountain rescue unit of the Guardia di Finanza recovered human remains and some items of clothing in a remote area of the territory of Traversella, in upper Valchiusella, in the Metropolitan City of Turin. The recovery operations, carried out in the morning, required the use of a helicopter to reach the area [1][2].
The recovery operations
The operation was carried out by the mountain rescue unit of the Guardia di Finanza in a hard-to-reach area of upper Valchiusella. Completing the recovery of the remains required the use of a helicopter, given the rugged terrain [1][2].
The theory of the missing Swiss mountaineer
Among the theories being examined is that the remains may belong to Jürg Müller, a 64-year-old Swiss mountaineer who went missing in that very area on 23 June 2026. At the time of the discovery, however, there was no confirmation of the person's identity [1][2].
The investigation by the public prosecutor's office
The recovered remains were taken to the forensic medicine department and made available to the public prosecutor's office of Ivrea, which has launched the investigations needed to identify the person [1][2].
